Can I use ther Targus Adaptor for Inspiron 1525

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop whose power adapter konked out (wire twisted and does not charge the laptop). I have a new Targus power adapter "APA01" with several tips for connection to different laptops. However the specs for the adapter is slightly differnt than the Dell adapter that kokned out. Mainly it is a 90W adapter (as against 65W for Dell) and has an output of 5.5A (against 3.5 in Dells). It is supposed to "smart" meaning it recognizes the laptop and adjusts the output accordingly. However, in the list of laptops for which this can be used (provided by targus), Inspiron 1525 does not exist. So wondering if I can use this adaptor at all or should I buy a different one!! Thanks in Advance.... ShruMaa

On the long term, a power adapter with a bigger amperage can damage battery and battery charger.

Better to get an adapter with same specs as the 65/70W one , or an original replacemant:

Dell 1525 won't run on ac but will on generic battery

Dell systems will not charge the battery without a Dell Branded AC adapter connected to the system (The BIOS looks for the adapter ID and disables the battery charger if not ID'd)
It appears, that since the system will not power on with either AC adapter, that there is a problem with the power connection of the system. You can replace the power board

if that fails to resolve next is the motherboard

Plugged in not charging on Dell Inspiron 1525

If you have the battery at a low level and it's not charging then i think i might have worked out what might be the problem:

First flash the BIOS to Revision A17 (or later if available)
Then power off and turn on the laptop with AC adaptor plugged in, hit F2 to go into BIOS and go to Battery Info.

If you can see 'AC Adapter 65w' at the bottom then there shouldn't be anything wrong with your power supply or the laptop. If it says 'Unknown' then there's a problem with your motherboard or the AC adapter.

My Inspiron 1525 will run on my new Targus APA23US Universal Wall Power Adapteron but will not charge the battery.

dell power adapters have a pin in the middle of the connector that tells the computer it is 90w. If the computer does not see the pin (bent, missing, too short) the computer will assume it is 65w which is not enough to charge the battery.

Dell inspiron 1525 battery doesnot charge

1. remove all external peripherals 2. try to use ac adapter alone check if laptop will power on. 3. put back batt in with ac adapter. 4. check bios (power on laptop keep tap on F2) 5. check for the bios version, battery info and battery health. 6. check if batt is 0% or 10% charge 7. check battery health and info if the ac adapter is determine or not. also check if batt is performing normally. 8. if batt has 10% charge then download the latest bios for your system. download it from support.dell.com

Ac adapter will not charge my computer

If the laptop will run from the adaptor, then the adaptor is probably fine. That being the case, if the charge light flashes when the adaptor is plugged in, the battery is faulty. No charge light on an otherwise working system is probably the battery charging circuit in the laptop.

Laptop won't turn on

The blinking orange battery light generally indicates that the battery isn't working properly, usually going out and not charging properly. In this case, since the adapter will not power the machine without the battery, and it should, I'm going to say that the adapter is going out and not getting the proper amount of power to the system. Try replacing the adapter. Be sure to replace it with a Dell replacement, the Targus brand universal adapters do not work well with Dell machines, and in most cases won't work at all.

No power

Try purchasing an original adapter. I've had several machine of different make through my shop that the Targus adapter just simply won't run. For example, a Dell Inspiron 1100 and HP dv4000 won't run at all, and a Dell Latitude 1501 and Gateway crv503 will run but won't charge the battery. Targus adapters are junk, if you can, get your money back.
