I used INport deluxe to record a large number of LPs onto my laptop but then didn't use it for some months, now it won't work. In the meantime I made some adjustments to some settings of my recording software but despite carefully following the "Windows 7 quick install guide" to reset my audio devices I still cannot record sound using LP recorder or Audacity, both of which I used previously.

SOURCE: Xitel INport audio not coming through

Change your recording device in your control panel back to your soundcard that will allow the sound back to your computer. In order to record you had to change it to Inport.

SOURCE: High pitch beep sound over the actual recording

Hmm - it sounds like feedback - when recording it is important to turn off any monitoring or sound out from your computer. To remove the sound you describe from a recording you will need a sound editing software with either an equalizer or a pass-filter so you can filter away the offending tone.

How does a customer with my problem get avoid having to purchase a new device and avoid the trialversion? I guess getting around the registration number is out of the question, but after using this device...

if you have purchased a program and want to install it on a new computer, contact the program company and talk with them
they will have the purchase and registration details on record and will advise on how to download and install on the new computer
they may also have a facility where by you give them permission to access your computer remotely and install it all for you

Xitel Inport De luxe with window 7

The directions for using the Xitel Inport Deluxe under Win7 are the same as those for using the device with Vista. The drivers are built into the OS. You will need to set the audio input to the Xitel device. For most installs of Windows 7 (Aero capable), with the Inport Deluxe plugged into a USB port on the computer, click Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound. Under the Sound listing, click on Manage Audio Devices. In the Recording tab, right click on Microphone Input and select Disable. Right click on the Line INport and select Enable. Right click again on Line INPort and make this the default device. Click on the Playback tab and right click on Speakers INport and select Disable.
If Aero isn't available, it's Control Panel > Sound.

You can use any recording software that runs under your version of Windows 7. The LP Recorder software manual starts on page 8 of the Xitel Inport Deluxe manual. If you do not have the original disc, LP Recorder is available here: http://www.cfbsoftware.com/lprecorder/lprecorder.aspx . (Audacity, http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ , works much the same way as LP Recorder. However the drop down menus for the source and output are available from the main program with the default toolbars enabled.)

I hope this helps.

INPORT Installed, Sound Disappears

The Xitel site http://www.xitel.com/USA/support_inport.htm says when this happens, " 1. Go to START -> CONTROL PANEL -> SOUNDS AND MULTIMEDIA PROPERTIES -> AUDIO TAB
2. Make sure that in the Audio tab your soundcard appears as the Preferred Playback device with USB Audio or INport as the Preferred Recording Device. There should also be a check next to the option 'use only preferred device'.
3. When you start LPRecorder you should also make sure that Recording Device is set to USB Device or INport and Playback Device is set as your soundcard and that there is a check next to the option Simultaneous Playback."
