It will play ps2 games but not ps3 games i reset default settings.
I had this problem and it really made me mad. I tried re formatting , reset settings and nothing. Then I tried using some air sprayer that people use on computer key board and I sprayed in where the disc goes and now it works perfectly. Perfectly!
Ok the problem with why the games won't load is that the laser is broke.if you have these problems..A) you have to keep taken the disc out and puttin it back in untill it works or B) it won't load atall.....so here's what you do.don't waste your time looking on the internet for solutions people say format it.keep your finger on the button and switch it on and off.....none of these work. this has happened to me twice you have to get the laser fixed by either ringing up sony (they do it for free if it's still in gurantee) or find a local pc shop or w/e who fixes them......hope this helps as i said it's the lense it's nothing to do with the HDD or anything like that
Try formating you system, a quick format and it should correct the none loading/playing error. It worked for me but at the cost of my saved data but hey, you can always get it back right? ^_^
I found that after playing PS2 games it caused the error so my only advice is not to play PS2 games which UNFORTUNETLY defeats the object of a 60gb if you got one like I do. [sigh]
The problem is with the blueray laser. If your ps3 turns on and reads all other discs but ps3 discs its because your blueray laser is broken. You either have to call up sony if your still under warranty or take it to a local pc shop to get a new laser installed. You could always buy the laser on ebay or something and do it yourself if you feel comfortable enough to do it but I wouldnt recomend it if your under warranty cause sony will do it for free and if you break the warranty seal then they wont.

i play a game but once it goes to a loading screen such as COD5 it then
freezes i switch it off and on and it dosnt even read the disk! To
solve this you can buy a cooler fan and stand but the PS3 console has
to be in a verticle Position. The cooler fan then cools it down so its not blasting out molten hot air at the back of the console.Also make sure the console is not too
near the TV. Lastly try to make sure it is not in the horozontil
position on the carpet or a rug.

I had this problem all i did was go and put my updates to "on" and instead of having the game come automatically on i have to put it on myself by choosing it.... good luck yall.

yup, i bought the 40gb a month ago, now it's stopped palying games and movies.. i did the "unplug for 5 minute trick", i tried the "hold power on button for 3 beeps" and i'm still on able to play the stuff that was downloaded to the disk. I've backed up the info to a 250gb hd, so i guess trying the Popsicls stick, air can or the Reformatting is next... this is sad.
