William, went to Coleman site, looks like you remove screws on bottom of lantern to access and change battery.

There are several options to buy replacement batteries for a Coleman rechargeable lantern, model 5348-700. I just picked up two new batteries from www.1000bulbs.com for $4.87 each plus shipping. You need a new pump they are not to bad in price, they really are not repairable.

Kerosene lanterns require a little more than just lighting the mantles. Go to Coleman's website and find the directions (for free) for KEROSENE lanterns. The generator on the lantern needs to be preheated with alcohol before it will actually light. Make sure lantern is a Kerosene lantern and not a white gas (Coleman fuel) type, there is a difference even though they look similar.
