Printer enters warming stage but does not appear to spool up. Continues to warm to the point I can smell the heat. Power cycling and/or unplugging the unit returns it directly to the warming state. Can this be easily fixed?
What kind of printer, HP will pop a 50 code which means underheat or overheat. Usually fuser replacment solves these problems, I would not leave it on they tend to melt plastic covers above printer.....
Printer is a Samsung CLX-3175FW. No code appeared but I was sure to shut it off as soon as I relized it was heating up longer than expected and hotter than normal. Of special interest to me was the fact that normally when I turn the printer on I can hear the rollers spin for a short time during the warm-up and what I assume is part of the POST. There was no paper jam that I am aware of nor has this been an issue to date. I checked the waste toner cartridge and as far as I can tell it is very nearly empty. I located in Chicago, IL.

AC, this link should take care of your questions. You can download the manual and check out the specs. http://www.samsung.com/support/productsupport/download/Model_Select2.aspx?type=Printer+and+Multifunction&subtype=Discontinued+Products&model=SCX%2D4100&fileType=UM&LSSI=%2Finclude%2FSSI%2Fus%5Fleft%2FLMenu%5FPrinterandMultifunction%5FDiscontinuedProducts%2Esec&RSSI=%2Finclude%2FSSI%2Fus%5Fright%2FRMenu%5FPrinterandMultifunction%2Esec Good Luck, Tim

The smelland heat is probably from the fuser as it gets extremely hot, if the printer's new it might settle down. No you shouldn't have to turn the printer off when not in use.
SOURCE: won't go past warming up stage
I heard of this Problem before however, I sense you have a fuser problem, their is a sensor that detechs heat levels and everytime it goes below that evel it keeps trying to warm up now did you experience a paper jam and did you try to remove it ?
if so check to see if you don't have like a piece of paper stuck inside,
If you need further help then we are located in the repair listing in ct. I have a feeling your fuser will need replacing this is why if you can not locate a service provider we can be of help since we are Samsung Authorized.

I think I have fixed this. The waste toner container was fairly full. This problem was initially intermittent and then persistent. Opening the printer cover and closing it was enough to shake the toner clear of the sensor until it became so full that shaking it made no difference. There was nothing to differentiate this problem from a paper jam so it was just luck that I checked the waste container. A quick short term fix was to tilt and tap the container to clear the sensor window, but the risk is that the container will overflow. Samsung tell you to replace the container (for about $AUD25) but it can just be emptied. I used a vacuum cleaner to **** out most of the toner and then washed out the rest with soapy water. I rinsed it with a solution of about 20% alcohol and then left it to dry over night. No problems since.
