"use genuine battery"

Does that phase mean anything to anyone? i've never had any problems with this phone in the 8 months or so i've had it. but today, i was in the middle of checking my voice mail when the call disconnected and a display came up on the screen that said "Use Genuine Battery" and started a ten second countdown before turning itself off. Now i can't turn it back on without it doin the ten second countdown switch-off again. i've tried taking the phone battery out and putting it back in, but i get the same display when turning it back on.

  • Anonymous Apr 02, 2008

Yes, I have the same problem! "use genuine battery!!" I have 3 exact phones , 2 are my kids phones, I switched batteries with their phones and it still says that! No water damage here!! And anytime I have to deal with Verizon customer service, they NEVER resolve anything without costing me both arms!! Any real solution? Mac

  • Anonymous Jun 07, 2008

I am geting the message Use genuine Battery - POWER OFF!

I also have a pink dot when I take the battery out. I did not expose the phone to any water last night. It was in my purse all night.

Any solutions? I tried q tip with rubbing alcohol did NOT work.

  • KykAy Jun 10, 2008

Me and my sister have the same exact phone. My phone had water damage. We tried switching batteries to see if my phone would work and all it said was "use genuine phone battery" and then it counted down to ten and shut off. My sister put her battery back in her phone and i did the same thing.

  • russ7718 Jun 16, 2008

Mine got rained on. I had the pink dot. Tried new battery, no luck. Tried to connect to direct power (car and wall socket) not an option the way the phone is engineered because the battery is required. Is there a way to bypass the battery to get direct power. I know I will have to buy a new phone, I just want the address book, ring tones, and pictures.

  • norahs722 Jul 27, 2008

same problem, dropped in the river again, have saved it 3 times previously but this time it looks like this is the end. I have taken it apart and dried in the sun for several hours and still get same message. They want me to get a new phone. Verizon completely rips us off.

  • Anonymous Aug 09, 2008

so, i lost my phone (env) and i just got a new one yesterday. it worked fine, it wasn't exposed to ANY water whatsoever, and i got the "use genuine battery" right after i finished charging it. the dot in the back of my phone isn't pink at all, and completely white. so i don't know what is going on.

  • matthews_dal Aug 19, 2008

  • Anonymous Mar 14, 2009

My phone has done this 4 times and it always comes back on in a couple of days. It gets annoying though, I don't have water damage. It has to do with the charger, because whenever my phone goes dead and I charge it, it goes to the Genuine Battery-Power Off thing???

  • Anonymous Mar 20, 2009

my phone is shhowing the same stinking message. its not dropped or anything. i went to the movies and turned it off, i got out tried to put it back on and it wouldn't work. just show the "use genuine battery power off" msg. anyone care to explain y? cuz i feel steryotype blonde here.

  • cjani1 Apr 28, 2009

I dropped my phone and the back and battery came off. When I put it back together the screen comes on and says "use genuine battery." And it won't turn on all the way. I tried plugging it in to the charger but the screen just stays on.

Phone got damp - not wet! shows battery message, but battery works in husbands phone despite pink circle. My phone shows a white dot, only pink is in the battery. Tried the white paper and alcohol tricks but not go.

  • Matt Culligan

I don't know anything about all those numbers. But I'm getting the same message. What I did for a temporary fix was simply remove the back cover. I took the battery out, put it back in. But I did NOT put the back cover back on. And it works fine. When I put the back cover on, it shows the message again. It makes no sense! But it works! Use this method if it helps, and it can set you up until you get a replacement.

I left my phone in the yard and it got rained on (don't ask), and I brought it inside, took the battery out, and let it dry for a day. I reinserted the battery and it worked for a few days until i got the "Use genuine battery" message. I put a small piece of white paper (actually the back of the label of a bottle of Blue Moon) over the moisture indicator, put the battery back in, and everything worked, much to my surprise.

REMOVE THE BATTERY!

*Choice one- Methyl Alcohol

Clean the circuit with Methyl Alcohol

  • Dip a q-tip in the alcohol and squeeze the q-tip.(you want it to be almost dry)
  • Very carefully clean the circuit and allow it to dry, it is important that you clean around the medal to prevent short circuits.

*Choice two- Rubbing Alcohol

Clean the circuit with Rubbing Alcohol
  • Dip a q-tip in the alcohol and squeeze the q-tip.(you want it to be almost dry)
  • Very carefully clean the circuit and allow it to dry, it is important that you clean around the medal to prevent short circuits.
  • Rubbing alcohol has a slower evaporation rate so you need to wipe the area with a clean q-tip after cleaning it with the alcohol.
If this dose not work you need a new phone, good luck.

My phone is an ANCIENT verizon LGVX8300 which just recently started doing this to me. Now I actually know this phone has water damage, amongst many many other types of damage. I work in laboratories so this phone has had anything from gold and lead dust to cyanide and nitric acid spilled on it. Never had one error message until now. First I tried the cleaning with alcohol thing but had no luck. I was going to try another thing but pretty much decided I didn't care enough (this is ancient acid-spilled-on cyanide phone, remember) and just ripped off all the moisture indicator stickers from the phone and battery. Phone worked immediately! Didn't bother with white papers or anything, just took em all off.

So, yeah, I guess now my phone might explode from water damage at any moment. But at least I still get texts!

Mine is doing the same thing. I shut it off to charge it last night and when i went to turn it back on this morning it said "Use Genuine Battery. -POWER OFF-". Then it starts the ten second count down. I'm almost positive that there's no water damage. What else could have cause it.

My phone was doing the same thing i was texting my friend then all of a sudden my phone said USE GENUINE POWER OFF then counted from 10 to 1 and turned off. This wasn't the first time it happened. Usually i just charge it and it comes back on. NOT THIS TIME. I tried putting a little piece of paper on the LG pink paper thing on the battery, but that didnt work either. So i took the battery out looked where the pink piece of paper clips in and saw a white circle. I put a white piece of paper on the white dot(not on battery) but where it clips in on back of phone. I turned my phone on and now it is working perfectly again. Hope my advice helps others.

I took it to a verizon store and they gave me a new one. If it is still under warranty.  If not, then you would pay $50.  This happens when water gets in the phone.  Take your battery off and look at the bottom.  Is the white dot pink? If so, you have water damage!

I have the same problem with my en V2 and i know for a fact it has not ben exposed to water, the indicator is NOT pink or red, and i am very careful with where i take my phone.
but i took the battery out of my dads phone because we have the same phones and it works. so i know its not water damage there are other causes for this problem and its more than likely with the battery.

I had the same problem.. have a friend that works for Verizon..Moisture from it being in a shower or in a place that contains alot of moisture even next to a sink without water running can show the indicator as if it had gotten wet. I just placed a small white sticker of the indicator and it works just fine! Good Luck All!

I have the verizon en-v, if the dot is pink, no matter what you say, it was dropped or exposed to water. the best thing to do is just get a new phone.

  • cbuck14 Oct 27, 2010

Actually, my verizon LG phone did this right out of the box the very first time I turned it on, and it was new, not refurbished, so they could be telling the truth. I took it to the store and got a new battery.

My Verizon LG EnV3 is saying Use genuine battery and then powers down in 10 seconds. I've tried most of the suggestions people have posted and they haven't worked. Please help! I don't kno

I had 3 Verizon LG VX 5500 and 1 told me the same thing. I just ask a friend for an old phone and then I activate it on the verizon website and no problem... it can't be fixed once is asking you for a GENUINE BATTERY, you need to get another phone. Also you can get the same phone in ebay (used) and activated it yourself.

When I try to take a picture or record a video on my nokia 6350 it says "Not Allowed" What does that mean?

"The only fix is a phone power cycle/reboot. This error happens to me (and many other 6350 users) constantly after the phone has been on for a few days. It's not a problem of memory or anything that the user can fix -- just another usual Nokia bug that they'll never fix. There is no updated firmware as of 12/10/2010 -- nearly 8 months after this problem surfaced! Obviously nokia don't care." Try taking the battery out and replacing it after 5 minutes. If it still doesn't work after you power the phone on, then you should take it to an At&t store.

I purchased a Marco Max watch with day, date and moon phase. How do I set each of the dials to match the correct day of week, month and hour?

The crown has three positions. The A position is when it’s pushed all the way in. You can’t set anything in this position. The C position is when it’s pulled all the way out. The B position is the click between all the way in and all the way out. My biggest problem is that I read the directions to mean that there were FOUR positions. I didn’t realize A was all the way in. I thought there was three pulled out positions.
To set the day of the week (Sun, Mon, etc.): Pull the crown all the way out (position C) and turn the time to just after midnight. The setting will click to the next day. To advance it an additional day, you don’t have to turn the hands another twenty four hours. You can turn the hands backward to before midnight (you will see the day of the week setting click a little, but not go backwards), then turn the hands past midnight again.
I recommend setting the day of the week setting to YESTERDAY. You’ll see why later.
To set the date: 3341598183_60e77d12e5.jpgPull the crown one click out (position B) and turn the crown away from you (clockwise). This will advance the day indicator (it looks like a second hand). To set the month, you have to keep turning until you get past an entire year. There is no separate way to set the month. To make the correct month show, you must keep turning the crown past every day of the year until you get to the correct day.
I recommend setting the date to YESTERDAY. I’ll explain why later.
To set the moon phase: Pull the crown one click out (position B) and turn the crown toward you (counter clockwise). To find out what phase the moon is currently in, here are a couple of websites:
Once again, set it to the moon phase for YESTERDAY.
To set the time: Pull the crown all the way out (position C) and turn the crown either away or towards you to set the time. Keep turning the time away from you (clockwise) until you get past midnight. Once you get past midnight, ALL the settings should change (day of the week, date and moon phase). Now you KNOW you’re on today’s date at just after midnight. Set the correct time and your Luar watch is ready to go!
Review 3342440924_5fa48ca4fe.jpgMany of the Swatch enthusiasts were disappointed that the Luar is a battery powered watch instead of an automatic. With a price tag of approximately $450, it’s a little much to expect an automatic with a real moon phase. I’ve talked at length about what I desire in a watch here:
My desires have changed a lot since that day nearly four years ago when I went looking for the perfect

From personal experience - I had the same problem with a phone I bought (supposedly) brand new - though mine would last about 10 minutes. The batteries which came in the box were not genuine Uniden batteries. I had to buy new ones direct from Uniden (to be sure) - and no problems since..

I have since been told that sometimes the original batteries are stolen and replaced with cheap nasty ones - before they even get into the shop.

Same thing can happen with computer software - they make copies from the original cd. Then they just need a vacuum packaging machine to make it look like it has never been used.

My enV read use genuine battery and counts to 10 and then shuts down what can I do. [email protected]

I got this same message and got so mad at my phone that I finally started getting really drastic with my choices on how to fix it. First I took an eraser and rubbed it on the battery and where the battery means the phone. Thinking that maybe it was dirty or something. I don't know if I saw that solution from here or somewhere else be someone said to do it and it didn't work, but you should try it just in case. Then I took a Q-tip and dipped it in some rubbing alcohol. I rubbed it on the same spot where the battery meets the phone and on the battery and it didn't work either, but still try it. It may work for you. Eventually I gave up because it sucks to sit through ever attempt and hope that it works when it doesn't. I just sat there with my phone and turned it on and off and watched the message in boredom, but them my phone finally died. So I just put in on my dresser and forgot about it for a while. I woke up the next day and had plans to check my phone and I couldn't find it, then I remembered that it was broken and got up to go get it off my dresser. I tried turning it on but it was still dead. So I just decided to pug it in and attempt to have another day of desperate attempts to fix it but instead of it just saying 'use genuine batter' and staying like that, it had a message the said 'battery charging' and while it said that a picture of a battery beneath it flashed. I was confused because 1. I’ve never seen this message before and 2. I’ve tried plugging it in before but it still didn't work. So I pressed the power button while it was still plugged in just to see what would happen and it turned on like normal. the verizon wireless label came up and my normal screen came up. So maybe you should just let your battery die and leaving it dead for at least 8-15 hours then plugging it in and turning it on while it is plugged in. It was…extremely relieving.

"use genuine battery"

Sadly it does happen to these phones more often then it should...

The best you can do is either get a new battery from your local dealer(or online) or just clean the contacts really good with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol.

If the phone receives a charge that isn't the rated from it's normal battery it freaks out and says that you're using a poor battery... It's really stupid.

LG VX8300 phone wet

I had this same problem and the problem actually is not with the phone. It means that the water damaged the battery. I purchased a new battery at a verizon store (because they have a 15 day return policy), popped it in and everything was hunky dory. Now I cannot say if there is any water damage to the rest of the phone, but when you are getting the error to use genuine battery, it is because that one is now damaged. New battery costs about 30 to 40 dollors

Hope this helps

VX8300 Phone! Problem!!

JJulie, I had a similiar problem with my phone (lg vx8300) where it would show a white screen saying "use genuine battery" and then power off automatically. Although there was no contact with liquid, there were signs of water damage (high humidity in my area, camera lens had some moisture) on the battery and phone. If you open the battery door, look at the bottom edge of the battery (where positive and negative posts are), and the spot on the phone located where the battery would line up with this dot. If either/both dots are red, then there has been liquid damage, and you will need to replace the phone. I understand that this is not good news, for me it meant that I had to pay to replace the entire unit. Check to see if you have insurance with your phone plan to get a lower cost replacement. Sorry for your loss, and hope this helped.

Phone won't charge

Hi, The Li-ion battery cahrging circuitary is some what complex. For most chargers, the charging procedure is divided into three main phases: ? Pre-charging phase ? Constant-current-charging phase ? Constant-voltage-charging phase In the Pre-charging phase, it utilizes low charging current to protect the battery. However,in most recharging situations, the charged batteries still have some voltage remaining, so the charger does not need to apply this action, and just passes it on to the next charging phase. The constant current and voltage charging phases are the main charging phase for recharging the batteries, where most of the charging energy is transformed into the battery. The maximum charging current for a battery depends on the battery?s rated capacity. For example, one battery rated 700 mAh usually can be charged at 350 mAh to 400mA, for faster charging effort. When the charged battery is Li-Ion, in the last charging procedure, the microcontroller normally maintains regular charging voltage while monitoring charging current to determine when the charging procedure should be completed. When the battery is fully charged, most of the electrical energy is converted to thermal energy, which can result in high battery temperature. In this case, the temperature monitoring function will be added for the solution. But since most Li-Ion batteries on the market also have an over-charging protection function, the temperature detect function is rarely used. So it is better to get your phone charging circuitary checked at a local store rather than to make a charger, coz both may cost you almost same. all the best my friend. regards sreejith
