Nikon LS 2000 Film Scanner Logo

LS 2000 w/SCSI connection

The scanner initializes completly (whatever the specs for initialization are)and the PC's software recognizes the scanner, as well as the Nikon SCan software, ver 3.1.2 The firmaware of the LS2000 is at ver 1.31. Problem: Inserting the film into the SA20, the image never appears on the monitor and the film drive motor continues to run. There is no error message and eventually, the program locks-up. I have to shut-off the scanner, turn it back on and the film is driven out, and the software application closes.

Nikon LS-2000 and LS-30 film scanner service and repair. Check seller pjferrante2 on eBay. Scanner performance backed for 12 months. Very reasonable price.

This sounds like a bad scanner or SA-20 film adapter. The first step is to try the scanner with an MA-20 and a slide. If this works, you have a problem with either the scanner or the SA-20, and my money is on the SA-20 (the motorized film adapter for accepting short (2 to 6 image) strips of negative film).

I am running XP Pro SP3 and have installed a SCSI card and software for the scanner. When opening the utility I get error #5 cannot confirm scanner connection. Please confirm scanner's connection and SCSI...

Hello, just check you have a scsi terminator fitted to your scanner as without one you can get all sorts of bus errors. Also, keep the bus length as short as poss.
n.b. some of the later scsi devices are auto-terminating, so check the spec of your devices, and by the way,. don't plug and unplug your scsi bus whilst it is powered up as this can cause the hardware to blow (it's not like a usb plug and play bus)
Hope this helps!

Failure in initialization of Scanner. Scanner is offline or , scanner is turned off.

First check if the scanner is working in 'offline' mode by 'counting' a few pages.
Connect to the comp, if SCSI is the interface, you need to start the scanner first, if USB you can connect the scanner even after comp powering on. If the scanner is not recognised, reinstall driver software and scanning software.

Dell laptop wont recognize ls2000 scanner

The LS-2000 is a "legacy" device to XP and the Nikon software. It needs to be connected to a true SCSI bus adapter, and it's actually pretty finicky about which ones will work in XP. Sorry, you won't be able to use this with your laptop.

I need to connect a Nikon LS2000 Slide Scanner to a Power Mac G4

I originally had the same problem but with a G5. Since Nikon never updated the software for the LS2000 to work with Apple I ended up buying a FR1SX adapter from RATOC Systems: http://www.ratocsystems.com/english/products/FR1SX.htmlwhich connects the SCSI pins to a Firewire cable. Then I purchased the VueScan software from http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html. The scanner worked for several years with this combination.

PC (Dell) won'r recognize scanner (nikon ls 2000)

This is a problem with SCSI bus speed too fast for the legacy device. The recommended SCSI controller is the Adaptec 2906, which will recognize legacy devices and slow the bus speed for them.

You also need an older ASPI driver set, version 4.70 available from Adaptec at http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/speed/software_pc/aspi/aspi_v470_exe.htm

Before you install the 4.70 version you need to be sure to remove any newer versions of these files: Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}ASPI32.SYS Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}WOWPOST.EXE Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}WINASPI.DLL Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}WNASPI32.DLL

These files may be found in WindowsSystem or WindowsSystem32. In order to delete them, you will need to restart your PC in Safe Mode. Once they are gone, restart your computer normally and run the ASPIINST.EXE program which was extracted by running the file downloaded from Adaptec.

Finally, you need Nikon Scan 3.1.2 for the LS-2000, available at http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/81

Connecting a Nikon LS200 slide scanner to a PowerBook G4

Yes - get hold of an Adaptec USB2XCHANGE SCSI-USB cable and download Vuescan software (www.hamrick.com). This works perfectly on LS2000 - Macbook Pro combo.

Nikon Scan doesn't recognize scanner

I have the same problem (on XP, Nikon Scan 3.1.2) ... IF I turn the scanner on before the computer (or turn the scanner on and then reboot) then Nikon Scan recognizes it. Can't say I'm happy with the solution, but it works consistently for me.
