I have a KitchenAid Microwave Model kcms1555 and the push button to open the door does not seem to operate properly. If I put something in the microwave & close the door the turn table will automatically start before I have even used the touchpad to put in the time & hit start. The microwave doesn't actually heat up anything during this time. This happens sporadically.

SOURCE: KitchenAid Microwave Model KCMS1555 does not work

Assuming your inside light, turntable, and internal cooling fan all come on when you try to microwave, with the symptoms you have, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron, or a loose and possibly corroded connection on the magnetron's terminal.

The diode is a fairly cheap fix, and the mag will cost more.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

d:%5cele%5crepair%5cmicrowave%5cge_hotpoint%5cmini_manual_behind_grille_small.jpgAt our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you don't find your mini-manual, or if you want to look at it before removing the controller, you can download it here.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here. I recommend that you bookmark that link to your favorites.

Accessing some components for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download owner's manuals and installation instructions for several brands (including Amana, Jenn-Air, Kitchenaid, Litton, Maytag, Roper, Tappan, Thermador and Whirlpool) here.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you (usually $75 -90) or the labor charge to do the work(usually $75 -90 more) . See the model tag in or on the unit for the date of manufacture.

If nothing else, you can save about $75 by taking it to the shop yourself.

SOURCE: microwave not turning off when door opened during operation

It is likely a bad door switch or mount. See the help file here.

On some models, the door switches, fuses, and TCOs / thermal cutouts / thermostats must be checked, too. See photo below.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit - behind the back, behind the control panel, or hidden on the left side behind the grille - which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Door open button won't work on KitchenAid microwave model YKCMS135H

Page 3 of the exploded view here shows the door open parts 24510L and 250201 (or 23551B if your full model number is YKCMS135HSS).

What look like part numbers seem to be reference numbers.

I own a KitchenAid KEHC309JSS05 and the microwave just stopped working. When you open the microwave door the light doesnt come on. Also if you press any button it beeps three times and displays...

common problem with lots of MWs - the door switches are not set and secured properly. Now they are totally off. Need to pull apart and reset. Not a task for an average homeowner. Mine (Whirlpool) did that 1 week after I got it - exchanged for a new one.

Model KCMS1555R KitchenAid Microwave Oven turntable continues to operate even when the door is open. It seems to work otherwise. I disconnected it from the power hopping it would reset but that did not...

This is an extremely dangerous situation, if the microwave oven is running with the door open it means the safety interlock switches are not working the way they were designed to, and needs to be checked out for safety reasons. I recommend unplugging the device and not use it until it has been checked by a qualified technician.

The door press opener button of my kitchenaid

What usually breaks is the door open lever, but it may also be that the rear side of the door open button has worn down too far to work.

On a counter top model, the outer cover will need to be removed to diagnose and repair this. On an over-the-range model, usually only the control panel needs to be removed.

Once it is apart, you'll be able to see how the door open button would press against the door open lever, which would then lift up against the door latch heads (hook-like projections on the door) and the door should open.

MIcrowave runs with the door open also

your door switch is mis-adjusted,furthermore the other safety switch on the door should have blown the power fuse in the unit, because by design for safety it produces a short circuit if door opens under operation,so if door was taken off and replaced it was not adjusted properly
