This Model 10A902 Type 0226 04 Code 96100854 uses old style plastic for rope and spring PN# 499901. Old model...both the spring and rope was broken. Have replaced new spring and rope into housing. Works great until it is attached to mower itself. Then the rope pulls out but won't retract. As soon as I remove housing from mower it retracts very quickly. What is happening???

How do i fix the pull cord when it breaks

You need to take the cover off of the pulley and the spring loaded spinner, housing the rope..the pulley is sitting on the top crank shank of the motor..the spinner sits on it..the rope is attached to the spinner via a knot in a slot or hole..remove the old broken rope and measure the two parts..using an equal amount of new rope attach the new rope using the old one as an example and wrap it clockwise until there is enough rope left to be fed back through the cover..and attach the T handle Note..the T handle should have a small door on one end to feed and tie the rope on..you can see this when your remove the old rope from the T handle..should be ready to go..just watch the steps when removing the broken one and do in reverse..Good luck

Our LG dishwasher is about a year old and the door use to stop about 1/3 open when you open it, Now the door just freely goes down and I am not sure why. Can you help?

Hi
Your machine should be under warranty as it is less than two years old. Call LG and see what they say.
Otherwise if you do not have warranty here is a possible solution...
LG Dishwashers have a rope attached to the bottom of both sides of the dishwasher door and the rope winds around a pulley fixed on the side wall/chasis. The other end of the rope is hooked to a spring tensioner which sits vertically along the side of the machine.
Either one or both ropes may have broken as the ends have a plastic catch which normally break. Sometimes they need tensioning or they fall out of the pulleys.
It is a major job to get to them and if you are prepared to do this you need to be handy.
In order to get to them you need to disconnect and pull the machine out. Remove top cover, either two screws at the back or in front depending on the model. Then remove plastic kick board in front bottom of machine. These are clipped on. When you remove this there is another white plastic front cover with front legs attached to it. Remove the front screws on either side to pull this part off. Sometimes the wire harnessing is attached to this part and you need to unscrew before you pull it out.
Once you remove this follow the screws all aound the side panels both in front and at the back of the machine to remove panels. When you remove these you can look at the sides. Open and close the door to observe the door pulley mechanism I described. If the rope is not torn, Just look to the top of the springs, there is a screw which gives more tension to the springs. Tighten the screws and see if this rectifies the problem. Otherwise you need to order the brocken parts.
Good luck

Troy-bilt pull rope torx screw: Is there a trick to remove the torx screw in the center of the starter spring housing?

There is no trick, you would just use a torx screw driver. If your spring isn't broken don't do this. If your rope is broken you can fix easily. Replace old rope with new rope of equal size, place rope into spring wheel and turn counter clock wise holding the spring wheel. place other end of rope thru hole in shroud, remember to hold tight you have a lot of tension there. Pull rope thru enough to tie a knot, replace your pull handle , untie the knot and you should be fine. GOOD LUCK.

I have pulled the cord out of my gas powered trimmer. What is the easiest way to fix this

Remove the pull start mechanism, remove the old rope from the inside plastic, thread a new rope through the hole in the outside and through the hole in the plastic center where you removed the old rope, Now reach between the spool and the edge of the casing and pull some slack in the rope, there will be a notch in the spool, set the rope into the notch and begin spinning the spool to make tension in the spring ( correct direction is the same way the rope is spooled in. go until you have good tension on spring, grab rope left outside casing and pull through, then let rope get pulled into the spool with the spring tension you have created. Now just reattach the handle.

Door falls open

The side spring springs could have unhooked. Some springs connect to a nylon rope that slides over a plastic guide. The rope could also have snaped or slipped off the guide. You need to open the sides (normaly the back first) to check. This is easy to fix if you have the right tools...

I have a 18 in poulan wildthing chainsaw p4018wm the pull rope was jamed so i took it apart and wound it back but a small black spring fell out gave no idea were it goes i need a dirgram

What you have is the spring assist starter. This is a new style starter that does not engage with the flywheel in a direct basis as starters have don for the past 50 years. What happens is that you have two springs. One to recoil the rope and one to store energy to release to the flywheel in a sudden burst. If you do not like this type starter you should be able to buy the old style and replace it. Most of the parts list I have seen still show the old style starter. Check with a full service dealer in your area if you have one. If you can not find one in your area contact southern supply company at 205-833-2525 or email them at [email protected] and I feel sure Jason or someone there can help you.

Fix Coil Start Stihl Weed Trimmer. The rope will not recoil. Looks like I need a star style screwdriver to remove the cover for access. Weed trimmer has been used two seasons. Appreciate input...I want to...

you dont say what model Stihl, lets assume its FS80/85. the torxs style screw driver is part of the tool kit supplied with the machine and includes spark plug spanner 3/4 AF, remove the four screws to release the starter assembly, the starter also retains the fuel tank, dont lose the oblong rubber insert or the tank will wobble around when assembled. if the rope wont return the end of the rewind spring may have broken off or it maybe that the spring has got so rusty its just hanging up. with the recoil off remove the centre screw (normal anti-clockwise) holding the starter away from your eyes, withdraw the pulley and inspect the spring for damage which normaly occurs at the end that engages with the pulley, if it's broken and you cant get a replacement use a pair of pliers to grip the spring about 3/4 inch from broken end, heat with blowtorch to soften and rebend into a hook to engage with the pulley, dont try to bend without softening, clean off any rust with wire wool and re-install the spring in it's housing working from the outside toward the middle.it's more of a knack than anything else and you could probably do with eleven fingers. having installed the spring make sure the rope is fully un-wound and insert the pulley into the housing turning gently until you feel the spring engage, you will know you've got it right when the pulley attempts to rewind, fit the pulley retaining screw, you will observe a notch in the outer rim of the pulley, make sure that the rope is in the notch and use it (the rope) to wind the spring about five times, check that the whole rope rewinds into the pulley, if you still have some hanging out put more turns on the spring but dont over do it. to check, gently pull on the grip until you come to the end of the rope, thats the important bit, you must come to the end of the rope before you come to the end of the spring otherwise the spring will break again.install the starter assembly by offering up and slowly pulling on the grip until you feel the pulley engage with the starter pawl. good luck.

Lawn mower troubles

You must first remove the cover assembly which houses the starter pulley. Pull the old rope completely out until it no longer moves. Hold the starter pulley and remove the old rope. Try to wind the starter pulley spring tighter if possible. DON'T LET GO. The starter rewind spring must be wound before installing the new rope. After winding the spring, thread the new rope through the cover and into the hole in the pulley. Tie a good knot in the end and let the rope wind slowly into the housing. Once you have this done, replace the cover, get the proper length of rope, thread it through the handle, tie a knot in this end and your ready to go.
