A quick Google search turns up the following:

Most of the time when you get error messages like this it is due too drivers. Now in order to determine this issue I need to know what type of computer you have, OS installed on it, how old the PC etc. Please advise!

You probably have the USB adapter connected upside-down on the unit.

ok you can do two things to fix it
first of all go to start
go to run
type regedit and hit ok
now in the registry go to this path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
and remove both upper and lower filters from the right pane
now close the registry editor.
reboot the computer and see if that fixed it or not
if not the download the drivers from this website.

just select the operating system that u have and then download it and reinstall the driver and then reboot the computer
that should be it
if still not working then i guess its a hardware issue
cheers

Install Virtual Machine additons and u can share the folder between the host and guest pc.

Try going to Disk Management and see if they show up there.
If your computer is recognizing a mass storage device they should show up in disk management and you can just assign them a drive letter.
