All taps connected to my Rinnai XR20 run only luke warm when first turned to their hottest setting. In order to get truly hot water, I need to turn the temperature lever back and forth, from hot to cold, several times. Can this rather tedious step be eliminated? (Must add that our nearest service agent is more than an hour away and isn't keen to come this far into the country for a single item like this...) Any suggestions gratefully received. Richard

Hi, try turning up your temp setting in your rinnai. Also , it may take a few seconds to get hot water if the tap is quite a way from the hwc.

SOURCE: No water flow from hot water tap with a rinnai tankless water hea

Its A Possibility The Left Over Water In The Hot Is Frozen. If Your Line Is Exposed Outside Somewhere It Can Easily Freeze Up. Turn On The Hot Water Everywhere In The House And If Accessible Check The Lines To See Where The Warmth Ends. You Can Leave One Off Over Night In Hopes That It Will Eventually Defrost.

SOURCE: I need the manual for a Rinnai Infinity 26 hot water system

you can get it off the rinnai web site they have a spot on there to get the internet manuel,, but from what you are saying you may need to adjust the thermostat, or the temp, remember even though you will have endless hot water it still takes the smae amount of timed for the hot water to get to your faucet,, not only that make sure your shower heads aren't holding back to much water pressure, if you don't have enough water going thru the unit it will not stay lit, if will come on and go off, judt to dstisfy the unit,, make sure the filter is clear, on the cold side there is a cap screw if you take it off there is a screen in side you just pull it out and clean it and reinstal it,,

SOURCE: I have a problem with my Rinnai hot water heater

We had the same problem - the hot water would only be hot for 3 -5 minutes and shut off, then we had to turn the water off, wait a few minutes, and do it again. VERY FRUSTRATING.

Solution: The Rinnai serviceman showed me the heat-exchanger blower/fan: It was clogged with dust and moths.

Another clue: Our Rinnai was extremely noisy when the heat came on. After the fan was cleaned and replaced, it is nearly silent.

If you are reasonably mechanically inclined:
TURN THE BREAKER / POWER OFF to the unit.

The blower-fan is located in the lower central area of the unit (at least on our unit). If you draw imaginary north-south, east-west lines through the center of the unit, the fan is in the lower-left quadrant. There is a spring clamp securing the black rubber accordian-like tube to the fan. There are two screws that secure the fan to the unit. there are two plugs that connect to the fan, as well as a third air-flow sensor that should be removed. then you can look at the fan unit, as well as the grill on the underside of the heat-exchanger that should be cleaned.

My thought was to go out and get a simple bug-screen, and place it over the air-input outlet vent going outside, but the repair guy said that although it may sound good, if that screen ever gets clogged, or reduces airflow to the Rinnai, then the unit will work harder, or even shut off, giving the same problem.

I went to take a shower this morning and the water was ice cold. For more than twenty minutes the water ran and never warmed up. Are there common things to check my hot water heater for in this situ

There is an adjustment knob to control how hot the water can become. There might be a problem at the tap (however, if this is the case, you would still get hot water everywhere in the house). If the entire house isn't getting hot water, and the knob is set at the hottest water, you probably need to get the hot water tank replaced.

A.o. smith powerhouse powershot nat gas hot water heater 40000 btu the vent hasnt stopped running for 3 days and the water is luke warm at best

If the vent has been running for 3 days, is there fire in the hole? I suspect there is a lot more to this story. If there is fire in the hole, turn off gas and call someone before you get killed. Seriously.

Gas ignites flame but water is not getting hot

You have gas water heater with working burner.
But not getting hot water at faucet?

1) Bad faucet cartridge. Test for crossover. Copy following link:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Crossover.html

2) Is there hot water inside the tank? Open drain valve and check for hot water.

3) Drips and leaks: Turn off all taps and put ear against pipe and listen for water leak.
Water leak can run all the hot out of tank.

I have a rinnai 24 infinity model reu-242w-a. It ison the roof of a 3 storey townhouse we are moving into.Tthere are no remotes. It was working fine on demand until a plumber drained the system on the...

Ask the plumber who did the mods. to come a check that he hasn't crossed a hot/cold pipe. Really sounds like he has, this would cause hot water to mix with cold. Is the water hotter further away from where he did his work? This would be a clue. Easy way to check is to turn off the water to the hot water system, should be a valve on the middle pipe going in to the heater. This should turn off all water to all your hot taps. If you still have water at any hot tap or shower then the pipes have been crossed.

My kids just bought an older home w/a rinnai continuum nc-45-4us. right now their house phone isn't installed, so they can't phone, but they can't turn on hot water. any suggestions

Run through the basic checks
  • Power lead from the heater plugged in a socket turned on.
  • Gas on to house
  • All valves below heater in on position.
  • If they have controllers in the house turn on (key pads marked with Rinnai logo in kitchen or bathrooms usually)
There is a turbine that spins in the heater when a hot tap is run. If the heater has been sat for some time not operating the turbine might have stuck. Run the hot tap and keep it running, using a hammer give the centre pipe connection under the heater a firm hit a few times(not too hard). This might unstick the turbine.

Want to change water faucets

Centre tap of the rinnai will turn off hot water supply only.
Easiest way is to turn off your mains water supply. This will isolate both hot and cold, no need to turn off anything else

Rinnai Infinity 26 hot water system set to 55 degrees with remote temp adjuster. Water only luke warm for showers. Burnner working, water & gas pressure ok. Any thoughts ... Stephen

If you aren't getting any error codes, then the heater is probably doing its job. Your problem is probably somewhere in your plumbing system. The most common reason you get this sort of problem is due to cold water mixing in the hot water system. There are a number of causes for a "cross connection" :

-Faulty check valve
-Missing check valve on reciculation return line
-Faulty shower cartridge
-Thermostatic mixing valve set too low
-Faulty thermostatic mixing valve
-Faulty anti-scald valve

The easiest way to confirm a cross connection is to: 1) shutoff the cold water entering the tankless heater 2) open hot water valves around the house. If you still have water flowing at your hot water fixtures, then you have a cross connection.
