De-scaling I have descaled my coffee maker three times in one week. The light is still blinking and I have de-scaled again. The amount of coffee that is dispensed is never the same. Sometimes it won't brew and when I open and reclose, it starts dispensing coffee. It's only a 15 months old and I only use filtered water in the coffee maker.

Descale the sensor.

I recently had the problem of the dreaded "de-scale" message coming up on my coffee maker. After descaling my coffee maker 3 times, the "de-scale" message wouldn't go away. I called the Customer Service number and was told to unplug the coffee maker for an hour and that should re-set the machine. I did that and still the de-scale message remained. Another phone call and another customer service representative and I was told to hold down the Hot Water and Rinse buttons together. I placed a large mug and hit the buttons. There was a good bit of water that came through but IT WORKED! The coffee maker is as clean as can be and working very well. I suggested to the Customer Service Representative that Cuisinart should include this in the instruction and troubleshooting section. But I doubt that will happen. Sad that the web site info is not updated. Wanted to share my experience so it might help others frustrated by this issue.

It is sensing mineral deposits a.k.a. "scale". Run white vinegar thru the maker several times to break down and remove the scale. Flush several times with clean water before using to make coffee again.

The 'Descale' light that turns on indicates that it is time to de-scale the machine.
Scale - or mineral deposits- form from the water you run through your Keurig coffee machine. If not cleaned regularly, the buildup can clog the lines in your machine and ruin the heating element. The manufacturer recommends you descale Keurig coffee makers once every six months for normal water conditions and once every three months if you live in an area with hard water.
You will need :

• Keurig coffee maker
• 48 oz. white distilled vinegar
• Water
• Large ceramic cup
• Sink

Instructions :

1 Unplug the coffee machine and remove the cup.

2 Turn the coffee machine upside down over the sink in order to fully drain it of water. Be careful of the plug and avoid getting it wet.

3 Pour undiluted white vinegar into the reservoir up to the top edge of the viewing window.

4 Place a ceramic cup under the machine, plug it in and press "Brew" for a large cup. Pour the cups of vinegar into the sink and repeat the process until the reservoir is empty.

5 Remove the final cup of vinegar and empty it. Fill the coffee maker with clean water and allow it to sit for four hours, remaining on.

Descailing could still be the problem! other than recently when was the last time you descaled and how often do you descale. If you follow the 3 months or more by the manuel then contact keurig (1800 Cup Brew) If you didnt follow the manuels time frame like most people dont waiting for the light to tell you when to do it then thats the problem. Its too clogged with scale and lime for just one descailing to work. you may need to descale several times to get it unclogged. and make sure you follow the instructions fully esp. the letting it sit for 4 hours on.

i'd love to know the answer to this.. have had my keurig about 2 yrs and i have to descale it everyday.... love the keurig but this is gettng to be a pain

This is the time, you need to Descale the machine. The simple procedure is :-

Unfortunately, in spite of the best-laid plans of mice and men, espresso machines often get clogged by scale, deposits of minerals from hard water. Scale can cause serious damage if untreated. If your espresso machine's water flow has decreased a lot, it's probably because of scale. Fortunately, there is an easy and inexpensive way to descale your espresso machine.

1. Obtain some citric acid. You can either order this online or find it in the kosher foods section of the supermarket (usually marketed as "sour salt"). Acid solutions dissolve scale, which is made of calcium carbonate. There are special solutions marketed specifically for descaling, but citric acid works just as well and is much cheaper.
   
2. Prepare the descaling solution by mixing citric acid with water (I use two tablespoons of acid and a quart of water).
3. Put the descaling solution in the water tank, turn on the machine, and run water through the steam wand until the cup is filled, to expose the parts to the solution. Turn off the machine, and leave it for 20 minutes so that the solution has time to dissolve scale.
4. After 20 minutes, run more water
5. Run solution through the machine every 20 minutes, until the water tank is empty.
6. Fill the water tank with plain water, and run water through the machine until output water no longer tastes sour. This is important, because excess citric acid does not make coffee taste good.

SCALE REMOVAL
The scale contained in the water, over time, will
cause plugging up of some elements in the appliance
and will thereby compromise its correct functioning.
The result will be that more time is
required to make coffee. The formation of scale
depends on the hardness of the water and on how
much the coffee maker has been used. To achieve
the best performance, descaling must be carried
out every so often. The coffee maker has a built-in
system that counts the number of cups of coffee
that have been made. The ON DRIP pilot light will
begin to blink when it is time to carry out descaling.
To do so, proceed as follows:
• remove the anti-chlorine filter (if present) and the
permanent filter from the coffee maker (so as not
to bathe them with vinegar)
• Dissolve 2 dessert spoons (about 30 grams) of
citric acid (available in pharmacies) in the
water;
• Place the container on the heating plate;
• Press the DRIP/AUTO button twice, allow
the equivalent of two cups to percolate and then
turn off the appliance;
• Allow the solution to sit for an hour;
• Turn the appliance back on and allow the rest of
the solution to percolate;
• Rinse by allowing the coffee maker to operate
with only water at least three times (1 full container
each time).
• Press the PROG and DRIP/AUTO buttons
simultaneously to reset the counter to zero.
IMPORTANT: if the machine is left unconnected to
the electrical mains for over two months, before
using it again it is necessary to carry out the
process of scale removal as described in the preceding
section.
