Viking 936 Serger- handwheel will not turn properly

Serger started sewing more slowly and then stopped- computer display read "overload" which I've never seen before. The handwheel feels really tight and hard to move. I cleaned it all, oiled the spots as per the manual and then rethreaded it- it started back up but then stopped again.
Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there,
this type of problem related to "overload protection" the motor can't overcome the load work, then it would able to stop your machine, theres problem on motor assembly try to check the carbon brush.if worn out replace, handwheel are couple to motor pulley inside machine.there an opening for the belt.if you want to check it loosen bolt cover, have move the belt you can figure why handwheel moving tight.if you realease the belt handwheel will move independently but handwheel is connected to a cam shaft w/mechanical link connected such as gears, cam and bushing that
can also suspiciuos of obstruction can came there.take this to service center if trouble link to mechanical problem.have a nice day

I need the Huskylock 936 guide to setup the cover stitch. It is just a sheet of paper with many steps. Does anyone have it? thank you

Husqvarna Viking has the text instructions and for a couple of cover-stitch options on the Huskylock 936 page: http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/en-US/Machines/HUSKYLOCK-936 . The link to these instructions are here: http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/SiteMedia/EN/US/Documents/Learning%20Center/Huskylock_Specialty_Techniques_x_.pdf?ext=.pdf . There is also a video for setting up a triple cover stitch in the How-To tutorial. Note: the video requires Adobe Flash Player to run. The manual has a section on the cover stitch starting at page 40. This is available here: http://manuals.husqvarnaviking.com/VSM/Husqvarna%20Viking/HVManual.nsf/1fd5659e6f37141041256697003e64c0/de210fba65cb0805852575ed0070df04/$FILE/Huskylock_936_manual_EN.pdf .

I hope the steps in one of these files helps you set up the serger.

How to adjust the screen display on a Husqvarna 936 serger

Hello Susan.
All the different screen display adjustments are found starting on page 10 in the manual. If the manual is not readily available, here is a free link: Viking Huskylock 936 User Manual Sewing Advisor Display Function
The screen contrast is not adjustable on the Husqvarna 936 serger.
Happy stitching.

Husqvarna Huskylock 936. Handwheel won't turn, machine hasn't been used in a long while.

A thorough clean and oil would probably do wonders for the machine. These old mechanical machines are dependable but they do need some regular TLC because the old oil dries out and glues things together. I recommend not trying to run the machine until the problem gets addressed because it could damage the motor trying to run parts that are stuck together.

Below is what I've done for old sewing machines that have been neglected. Also, about once a year I perform a thorough clean/oil on my mechanical serger (as well as all my sewing machines). On my serger, I can remove the bottom (because that's how mine opens) and get to the moving joints inside.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

How to fix a broken Needle clamp on viking 936

I don't know of a way to repair the needle clamp. It will more than likely have to be replaced. The local authorized husqvarna viking dealer should be able to service the machine. You can find the nearest dealer from husqvarna viking website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us

Why does my 936 serger keep showing overloaded ?

My suspicion is that Viking sergers (905, 910, 936) bind up after heavy use and years of service. In other words, they are not "lubricated for life". Can you turn the handwheel on the machine? If not (or if extremely hard), you now know what the motor was dealing with. My guess is the motor is burned out, but you need both a total overhaul of the main shaft bearing system (cleaning the bearing and relubrication), and, a new motor.
I probably should consider repairing sewing machines in my retirement.

I have a husky lock 936 the machine says overload i cleaned it out top and under the plate. i turned it on and it dose the same thing.overload what else can it be.

If the handwheel can be used to turn the machine and it rotates fairly easily, you probably need a new motor.
If it doesn't turn easily, lubricate as directed in the owner's manual. If it doesn't free up, find an authorized repair center @ http://webservices.us.vsmgroup.com/DealerLocator.aspx?Brand=Viking

I will like to know the difference beetwen Husqvarna Viking Huskylock 936 Serger sewing Machine and the 1001L. THank you. Huguette

Both machines are very close as to what stitches/functions they do. However the 1001 is older and way past the 5 year warranty period which makes getting parts more difficult. If I had to choose between the two, the 936 wins hand down!

Huskylock 936 error code

This will also occur if the "needles" and "loopers" lock up as though threads are tangled and binding the machine. If needles and loopers move freely when manually turning the handwheel counter clockwise, you probably need to take it to an authorized husqvarna viking dealer for service. You can locate a dealer near you by visiting the husqvarna viking website and clicking on the Dealer link on the left-hand side of the page - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com

Good luck.
