Question about HP Hewlett Packard Pavilion Slimline S3100N PC Desktop

1 Answer

I have a HP Pavilion slimline PC purchased in 2008. Recently the modem quit working (HS DSL) and while waiting for a new one to arrive I gave all equipment a break ( unplugged everything--tower, monitor, printer) When the new modem arrived I hooked everything back as usual and the tower came on but there was no display on the monitor. It flashed no VGA or DVI input and then went into sleep mode. I rebooted, uplugged, replugged into the wall instead of the surge protector and still nothing. I unhooked every cable and rehooked everything back. Still no monitor display. I waited until the next evening to try again and this time the tower would not boot up either. The blue light on top would not come on although the green light was on in the back of the tower. Also, of course no monitor display. I hooked my laptop up to the new modem and it worked perfectly so I know its not the modem. I attempted all of these things all over again this weekend and still nothing. Please help!

Try a different monitor. If that works, your old monitor died and you need a new (or used) one.

SOURCE: Start up Probelms HP Pavilion Slimline

I'm the same guest from before and I've got my slimline back up and running. I found the solution somewhere else, can't remember where as I was on someone else's computer, but suggested a boot up problem with some USB devices. One suggestion was to power the computer down, unplug all USB devices and power it up again. The only USB device I had was an HP all-in-one printer/scanner. I unplugged that and the computer booted right up. Hope this helps!!

SOURCE: Computer will not boot up after i disconnect power

If the component with the blinking green light is on your network card, it has nothing to do with your problem, but does demonstrate that *********** board is NOT fried or there would be no voltage available to make the light blink.

Something on your board may be fried, but not the entire board.

Unit needs board level service, so obtain an RMA, if available and submit the unit for bench testing and service.

SOURCE: cpu says no input vga signal, then goes to sleep

The no input VGA signal just means that the monitor is not receiving anything from the graphic card on the tower. Is the card a digital (DVI) output card? You'll know by the connector, it's white and slightly wider than a standard VGA connector. If so, perhaps the monitor is set to the wrong input?

If that isn't the case, and the computer is using an on-board or built-in graphics controller, you could try resetting the system's CMOS settings by setting the clear-settings jumper on the system board, or simply remove the plug and CMOS battery for a few minutes. Check the computer's documentation on the exact steps to do this.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: how do I fix the error no vga input signal no dvi input signal monitor going to sleep

Check if you VGA is properly settled in the PCI slot. Try to take it out, clean the slot for dust.
If that doesn't help, it is well possible that you VGA is not working any more.

SOURCE: HP w2207 no vga input signal, no dvi input signal monitor goes to sleep

There is no signal coming from your PC.
excuse some of the solutions as sounding dumb, but we have to explore all possibilities.

Check the power cable going into the computer
Check the power input disconnect switch on the back of the power supply and make sure it is on
If the pc is plugged into a power bar, make sure it is turned on and the breaker isn't tripped
press power on the PC and make sure the lights are coming on.

now for the solutions that may actually help.

disconnect the power from the PC
if the video is on a card, remove and re-seat the video card
hook the power back up, connect the monitor and try again.

the CMOS on the computer may need to be reset.
I hate totally clearing the CMOS, so what I usually do is remove 1 stick of ram and power up. If the system is alive again, power down, put the RAM back in and power back up.
If that doesn't work, turn the system off, put the CMOS jumper to the CLEAR position for 15 seconds, put it back to the Normal position and then power back up.

Basically, if the monitor works on your friends system but not on yours, the the problem is your system, not the monitor (assuming it isn't working fine til it gets into windows...if that's the problem, you have a driver or configuration problem)

I put new power supply in my hp pavilion slimline but still wot turn on

the first thing you should do if it don't start is unplug everything (memory, cards - the lot) from the mobo apart from the power supply and turn it on.
if you get nothing, it's either the power supply or the mobo. check the power supply actually works, if not that then it's mobo.
if you get beeps, plug things in one at a time, when you arrive at the condition you started with, that's the bit that's wrong.

I've just had a look at this web site :-

http://www.ehow.co.uk/facts_6791518_specifications-slimline-s3123w-pc-maximum.html

And it says the your PC did come with both a The HP Pavilion Slimline S3123W had a 56k data/fax modem and an integrated 10/100 Base-T networking interface.

There's more info and help, including user guide here :-

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/searchResults?tmp_product=HP+Pavilion+Slimline+s3123w+Desktop+PC&product=3442918&tmp_qt=user+guide&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=uk

Ask AT&T if you need an ADSL modem or an old data/fax type modem. If its an old data/fax modem, you should be able to plug your phone line, may need the proper cable, into the back of your PC.

If they provide ADSL connectivity, then you'll probably need a modem, ask them to give you one or buy one from ebay or a shop. Should be really quite cheap. You may have a friend who could give you one because these are quite old technology now. Most people are now using a wireless router.

It may be worth searching on "youtube" for videos which show you how to do much of this.

directly connect the dsl modem to your pc and then restart your system. once your up and running the pc should automatically create a connection with the modem device. once you have established an internet connewction this way, shut down the system and reboot. after complete bootup, unplug the power supply cords to both the modem and the router. now plug im the modem, wait 1 minute and plug in the router. after about a minute you should now be able to connect to the internet both by your pc and wireless connections.

New HP has no phone jack. Can't use my dial up service. HELP!!

Go to any computer store (Best Buy, Local PC Shop, Fry's etc) and ask for a PCI modem. Once purchased turn pc off, open your case and slide it into the white PCI slots. You will have to remove the back plate or tab just behind where it goes. Make sure it is firmly in place. Close case and start pc when it asks for the driver it will be on the CD that accompanied the modem.

Connecting FAX on HP OfficeJet Pro L7680

If you don't see a phone jack on the back of the computer, it means that you do not have a dial-up modem in the unit.
A DSL line is installed with the cable modem supplied by the DSL company, ie: Bellsouth, AT&T. It connects to your computer via the network port.
The DSL provider supplies the modem and the filters that you need to install on your phone outlets.

Hope this helps.

If it does, please rate it.
If not, I can give you further assistance.
