Cant figure out what year my saw is?

Check if the fuel lines are still intact. More importantly, the introduction of ethanol into the gas supply has caused many issues with small engines, because of its corrosive nature. Sitting five years might have done this saw in with its effect (even if the tank is emptied) on internal parts.

The trigger and throttle lock are held with two roll pins, unfortunatly you need to remove the tank from the saw to take them out, i would guess the spring inside has broken.

This is a product number not the serial number.

Ask to see the sales receipt if you are in need of proof of purchase date. Even contacting Husqvarna to ask when it was registered may not be the actual purchase date. I saw a question not long ago about a saw that was purchased new that had been out of production for a couple of years. It is possible it sat on a dealer's shelf for a period.

Looking at the serial, it was manufactured in 1998, the 51st week (Dec), and was the 4th product that week.

24 = 24th week of year produced. 6th± month.
1174 = 1174th unit produced that week (not necessarily this saw or model)
