The lines have been restricted in the phone system for some reason that might not be needed anymore. Check with your Phone System Administrator. A system vendor can make these changes or an administrator with programming knowledge.

SOURCE: M7310 has lines 1 & 2 restricted to local calls only...HELP

Sounds like a 6x16 system, if you open it up, can you see on the right hand side 6 ports for your telephone trunks?

Ok... depending on the software level... enter the programming of the system, via **266344 and password 266344 (these are default passwords: might not be your passwords?)

Ok, once in you will see: TERMINALS&SETS (this is where your template to maneuver will come in handy) hit enter, and type in the sets that you want to change (ex 24) --> Look for RESTRICTIONS hit enter --> look for SET RESTRNS --> FILTERS --> change Normal to 2 and Night to 2 and Evening to 2 so on and so on.

This is the default to give no outside restrictions for your sets.

You call your Nortel service tech, unless you know the installer password and are familiar with programming. You have to go back into set programming and reassign the lines.

SOURCE: our church has M7310 phone with 2 lines, line 1 use to have a dial tone but not now, line 2 still has a dial tone. How do I get a dial tone back in line 1, right now all it has is just a sssssssssshhh

Call a tech in that handles the system programming to check the line port if ok and/or call your carrier to report the line as being dead.

How to Change COS (Class of Service) Password

If you set the all line and set restrictions to no restrictions, you are not restricted from making any calls. I don't think it's the phone system requiring this 4 digit code. Are you sure all your lines are set with the same long distance provider. Did the lines in the dial 8 group require a code. (ie some users had the long distance provider set up their lines to need a code entered to charge calls off to different job codes, so they can distribute the charges correctly).
You should now be able to call 9+1+area code+number, with no restrictions.

We have a 4-line system in our office, but it is not working properly. For instant, when line 4 rings...it only comes into one of the phones. All lines are working properly with dial tones. If we would...

Now here's a conflict. Does line 4 work on any other phone where it doesn't ring? You say all lines are working properly wiith dial tones, tnen you say you can't pick it up from another phone.

I don't think these phones have "private lines", but the dial tone comes from the 2nd RJ-14 jack on the wall. On every phone, you could swap the plugs so that line 1 comes into line 3 and line 3 comes into line 1 (you'll lose the intercom) and see if you get dial tone on line 2 which will be the phone that works line 4. The point being to determine if you have a wiring issue or a programming problem.

I have 3 lines from our provider, the lines already connected on the PABX. Only 1 line is program.. the other 2 line is not program on the telephone.. can u give me how to program the 2 line in the...

For a couple of reasons, No. However, if you access system programming, you can look at a couple of program locations to see whether the lines are turned on in software and how the system was restricted. Generally, program 400 assigns CO lines (in a TA cabinet) if the original installer used that method. The lines have to be enabled and appear on a phone to work. If you press lines 2 and 3 on the phone and the display says something, then it probably was the method used to turn them off. The other possibility was that they just restricted access by extension :-(.

It's a lot of work for nothing. That's changed in the 400's (407-409) IIRC.

Pick up a copy of your system's programming guide (PG) and it will tell you how to do it.

Phone service? You probably have a Strata VI box in the back, but the pilot number and all of the hunting is part of the dial tone provider's equipment. Somewhere on the side of the box, you should be able to unplug all outside lines and plug single line phones or test the lines with no equipment on them. If the first line rolls to line 3 all by itself, then call the dial tone provider and have them test the group. You have to make sure you're not shorting out the lines. In fact, if you can get dial tone on lines 1 2 and 3, then it tends to make it their problem and not your Toshiba system.

Our Lucent 4450 system all of the sudden says "your long distance carrier has been temporarily suspended." I've confirmed all our bills are paid and AT&T says it is not their phone lines. We recently...

Are these new lines that were recently added?

If the phone company says that the bills are up to date, and these are new lines, make them check all the lines individually.

I have seen that the phone company has given a new customer lines, but the lines were restricted because the previous owner of the lines was behind on the bills, and it wasnt changed when the switch happened.

Can't dial long distance from one phone

Sounds like that station is programmed to restrict certain digits (like 1 in the prefix) -- this is usually done by the tech because the owner doesn't want unauthorized calls to take place from a publicly accessible phone. To confirm this, swap the phone with another identical working phone and see if it's still restricted. Good luck!
