I purchased this Sony KDF-E55A20 55 in. LCD TV from my cousin, who has taken the tv apart to clean the lenses from tobacco smoke from the person who previously owned it. It is a 2005 and after he cleaned it it worked perfectly. I am making the assumption that he took the light engine out and that is where the lenses were cleaned. It looked good but he decided to make it look better and re-took it apart and then put it back together and now there is red and blue shadows around all the images that appear on the TV. Is it possible that when it was taken apart and put back together a second time, that the lenses weren't lined up correctly? Will it correct the problem if it is taken apart again and realign the lenses? I have called numberous repair shops here in Ontario Canada and they all say that it is the light engine which they say is $1800.00. I don't believe that to be the case, because it worked perfectly fine when he put it together the first time. Some advice on whether or not you think its just a matter of realigning the lenses once again PLEASE! Thanks in advance.
There is no alignment of the lens because the optical lens is fixed. If he removed the lcd panels then there may be a problem. You may want to check to make sure there is nothing on top of the optical lens or the mirror inside the mirror block assy wasn't damaged. If he damged the optical block or lcd panels then an optical block may need to be replaced. Very costly. Good Luck

6 blinks mean a thermal fuse problem. This model had a problem with the thermal fuse that does not close once it is opened. This is caused by a blockage of the fan that cools the optical block, usually from accumulated household dust. This causes the TV to overheat. The thermal fuse detects this and puts the TV into protect to prevent further damage to the TV. To fix, the fans need to be cleaned and the thermal fuse needs to be replaced. The parts are not very expensive (around 20 dollars for the fuse) but it does usually takes a while to fix because the unit needs to be taken apart to have access to the fuse and optical block fan. The GT board might have been damaged for the excessive heat but most likely a new thermal fuse will fix the issue and clean fans will prevent it from happening from the future.
The optics block has failed and it will have to be replaced. Contact Sony for an auth. service center in your area as the optics block in this unit has a 2 year mnfg. warranty.
