Samsung HC-P4752W No Color

I recently replaced my STK392-010 convergence chips for this tv. Everything went well, solder was perfect and reinstalltion was smooth. I turn the tv on and start the realignment procedure. No problems there, red, green, and blue are aligned perfect. I then exit after saving the settings and try to watch some tv. This is where the problem is, all channels and all inputs display in black and white. The menu shows up in color, and the PIP (with all sources) also shows up in color, so I know the TV is capable of producing a picture in color, but the main output is black and white. In addition, when the convergence was screwed up, and the self focus button was pressed, it would fail and say (Check Factory Data). This is still happening, preventing self focusing. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? Is this a service menu setting? I wanted to check the service menu setting values, but I don't have the service manual, anyone know these?

Thanks techman, I will make sure all physical connections are properly seated.

  • djmannos Sep 19, 2007

Any idea why I am getting the "Check Factory Data" message?

  • djmannos Sep 19, 2007

I will update your solution when I get the service manual and try it out. Thanks for the help so far.

Ok, so the problem was fixed setting all the correct values in the service menu. They were not set properly and caused the screen to be black and white. The settings take effect when the tv is turned off then back on. Convergence modules were replaced and manual alignment is required to perfect the image.

    thanks for your help.

Do not automatically think you need to go into the service menu. I bet you 100 to 1 that you pulled out a plug or a connector somewhere OR one is not seated into the plug all the way. If the set worked with color before you messed with it, there is not a problem in the service menu. The service menu is not the fix all thing. it is there to make fine alignments and adjustments, and as a matter of fact, messing with a service menu even with the service manual is very dangerous. I have seen peeps ruin TV sets by messing around with the service menu alignments. STAY out of these alignments. they are not going to fix a problem that all of a suddenly comes up. Repair the problem in the circuit first. Good Luck

Yes, now that is an alignment procedure that has to be done from the service manual and you will need special jigs to do them with. The flash or magic focus is nothing more then preset convergence alignments. You may have also a problem still in the convergence circuit. A lot of folks do not bother resetting the auto convergence settings, as the set can be adjusted fine. If you wish to attempt this assignment, you will need the service manual and that is available Here http://www.servicemanuals.net/results.as...

SOURCE: STK392-010

The value you are looking for is 3.9 ohm. Just ohm them out and replace the ones that are not right on the money= very important for longevity. Don't forget to clean and apply new heat sink compound to the heat sinks.

To much blue shade in picture

You may need to replace your STK chips in your convergence board. I just replaced mine due to ghosting. Seems to me asd anything that affects your picture quality is caused by bad STK chips. I purchased mine on ebay with a soldering iron solder and a solder ****** braid and paid 30.00 which includes shipping! Took less than an hour. The auction was for the STK392-010 but they had mentioned a 040 chip in the listing in error and sent me both sets. The STK392-040 is a better chip and works perfectly with my HC-P4752W. I had never soldered an electronic part in my life. I am an electrician and a plumber and master install tech. buy the chips. while they are being shipped to you, look at YOUTUBE for videos of soldering and desoldering using braid. You will get a good idea at what you need to do to fix tv! Also look for anything related to the convergence board for this model on YOUTUBE. Sorry so long but want to help as much as I can!

I have a Samsung HC-P4752W and see yellow and bllue halos.

Have you tried to use the convergence function on the TV? If that has not fixed this issue then you have bad convergence IC chips. These chips are microprocessors that align the blue and red tubes with the green (which is stationary). This converges the three tubes to create the image that you see. Failure of these chips (usually from heat over time) is a common problem with projection  TVs. The chips are not very expensive; from $35-60 for the pair. Replacing them involves some tedious desoldering of the old ones and soldering in the new ones. If you have some experience with electronics and soldering it is not hard. Shops will charge $300 and up for this repair. If you want to do it your self post a comment bnack here and I can assist you further.

Double vision

My television is a hc-p4752w and the color convergence is way off. The red and green are not together and curl away from the top of the screen and bottom too. I tried to auto focus with only making the color separation worse. The tv is about four years old with lots of play time...
I am a aircraft mechanic with some electronics training so I don't mind replacing components I just don't know where to start and have no troubleshooting manual for help. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

HC-P4752W - IC Replacement vs Convergence Module.

The colors weren't lining up correctly on my HC-P4752W which is only about 30 months old. I did a little bit of research and got ahold of the people at http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/ They recommended replacing the IC's as well as the IC resistors. I purchased the replacement parts from their site and made the repairs myself. I should mention that I didn't have any previous soldering experience. The repair was easy and a complete success. You may find replacement parts elsewhere for slightly cheaper but what you won't find is the prompt and detailed customer service that they provide. They gave me there # and said to call if I had any questions before or during repair. I took advantage of their services and got answers every time I called.
