Whirlpool otr microwave

I bought a used whirlpool microwave, When you turn it on, it makes a rubbing or thumping noise in the microwave fan... also the turntable will not turn ( we have hit the button to turn the turntable on and off). The whole thing is rather greasy. They must have really fried alot and it is over the oven model. It sounds like the fan (this is not the vent a hood fan) is rubbing the shroud around it, but i guess it could be a bad motor. The turntable just does not move. I can turn it with my hand, but i noticed once when i hit the turntable on/off while it was heating that the light and fan pulled down a little.. Thanks

Once i opened up the microwave, I found that some kind of capacitor or something (had two wires going to it) had fell down on top of the fan. I had to rig the plastic mounting bracket and re-attach it to a panel inside. That took care of the rubbing noise. It turned out that some one had unplugged the wire that powered the turntable. That took care of that. it seems to work fine now. Steve

Samsung OTR Microwave, Model# ME179KFETSR, convection fan turns on by itself. If I remove the mounting bolt, the fan turns off. What can be the cause to this?

The screw might be hitting a live wire in the wall which is very dangerous! Make sure there are no live wires where the mounting goes.

Brand new otr microwave won't heat and carousel won't turn. Control panel does work and its not in demo mode. No buzzing or noise coming from it other than the recirc fan out the top. Advice?

cabinet out of alignment , if this is over the range adjust the way you have hung it, the pawls on the door are not contacting the switch in the unit

Whirlpool microwave fan not working

I would unplug the oven for 2 minutes to do a hard reset and try it again, just in cause there was a glitch.

Without knowing your full model number from the tag on the oven, I would wonder if it has a separate internal cooling fan from the hood vent exhaust fan. It could be an unrelated issue.

For more free DIY and other help & advice, feel free to contact me with your full model number and FCC ID number from the tag on your oven.

My food no longer rotates while cooking, and it makes a clicking noise.

this is usually a bad turn table motor. if you remove the screws out of the bottom of the otr(over the range) it will hinge down and back and you will see the motor in the middle of the otr. your local parts house should have this item in stock or be able to order it for you

Microwave making dull thumping noise when NOT in use

I called a technician out today. Seems like the problem is the circuit board. It wasn't working properly and the sound is the fan. The fan is supposed to turn on when the microwave is in use and off when it is not. In this case, the fan continued even when the microwave was not in operation. A new circuit board has been ordered and will replace the old one when it arrives. For now, I can still use the microwave, but I have to unplug it everytime I finish heating something up. A little inconvenient, but at least it'll still heat my food up in the meantime.

My whirlpool microwave oven humms

Yeah, that's fan which stuck in "on" state. However the root cause is in a control board.

Whirlpool OTR microwave no oven 'fan'

FIRST ,,MICROWAVE OVENS ARE REALLY SAFTY MINDED AND THATS A GOOD THING....THERE ARE USUALLY THREE DOOR SWITHCES NEXT THE KEYBOARD--THE ONE ON TOP AND THE ONE ON BOTTOM ARE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SWITCHES,,YOUR PROBLEM SOUNDS LIKE ONE OF THESE IS NOT MAKING CONNECTION..YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO PRESS 'DOWN" WITH A LITTLE PRESSURE ON THE DOOR AFTER CLOSING TO SEE IF THE FAN WILL START,,,IF YOU NOTICE --THERE ARE 2 LATCHES(HOOKS) COMING OUT OF THE DOOR,,WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED,THOSE LATCHES ARE SPRING LOADED AND MAKE CONTACT ON THOSE SAFTY SWITCHES....THIS IS NOT A CUSTOMER REPAIR--MICRO'S ARE JUST TO DANGEROUS WHEN YOU TAKE THE COVER OFF--IF THIS DOES BRING THE FAN BACK ON--YOU GOT A BAD DOOR SWITCH AND SHOULD BE A REASONABLE REPAIR
THE OTHER SOLUTION STILL WOULD BE A CONNECTION PROBLEM ON THE KEYBOARD ITSELF-THE WIRES JUST PLUG ON THE CIRCUIT BOARD BEHIND THE KEYBOARD---STILL A EASY REPAIR--GOOD LUCK TUNICA
