First make sure that the DVD drive is the only drive listed to be booted from. Make it the first and only drive. Unfortunately most motherboards have an issue with booting from a SATA DVD drive. Secondly turn off Sata RAID if you have it. If this doesn't work then your motherboard isn't capable. It is too old and from what I can tell from the manual it is running SATA 986p, which is only 150mp/s thats not even Sata 1.5. Early Sata controllers couldn't do installations of OSs at all.

I want to boot from DVD. In order to fix a bootmgr problem on a SSD. In spite of using same W7 disk as I used for installing, the PC will not boot from DVD.

Recheck data and power cables. There's two places to set boot order: the one called "Boot Order" and there's usually another menu called "Drive Order" that will list the priority of the drives on the SATA chain.
Also, since you reset CMOS, is it possible that you might have to change SATA profile from IDE to AHCI?

Hello

Thank you for using
FixYa for your problem

IDE will try to boot first when pluged in, sata will not boot. I think there is a adjustment in the BIOS setting to have the SATA boot first

Please rate our solutions and if you still have problems please call back for more ideas to help you

Weird problem. CPU recognizes the sata, windows will not boot, recycles to start-up over and over. Tried with xp disc to repair, came back as "no hard drive listed. If I changer driver from master to slave...

It is possible that Bios/Cmos battery is not maintaining its charge. You might want to pull the cmos battery & check its voltage with a volt meter. It should retain 3volt DC. If it reads lower than 3v replace the battery. Once replaced you will need to reset all bios settings. If the battery checks out ok than continue.
The soulation to your problem lies within the Bios not your hard disk drive. Set the jumper you moved to slave back to master. Re-connect the SATA data & power connector to the motherboard. Boot up your PC & start pressing the Delete key on your keyboard every two seconds untill the Bios menu opends. (See page 2-14 section 2.3) in your manual.
You can not use your mouse while in the bios. Read page 2-12, section 2.2.1). This will explain how to move about while in the bios. Once the Bios opends you will be at the main menu. If your SATA drive is correctly connected you will see its model number listed there.
If you have two SATA drives connected you should see both. Take note of which is the master SATA1 drive. All SATA drives run as master drives. While in the Bios, SATA drives are shown from top to bottom. First /top drive will be the master drive. Next drive down is considered as slave.
Than open (OnChip SATA controller). Set this to [Native Mode] or to [SATA]. See page 2-16, section 2.3.5
Than open Boot. See page 2-30, section 2.6, Open Boot Device Priority section 2.6.1 Here is where you need to set the boot order.
(The boot order is not set correctly & this is why windows does not see your hard disk drive & showed the message "No hard drive listed").
If you have a floppy disk drive connected to the system set it as,
[1st Boot device]
Change 2nd Boot Device to [CD-ROM]
If you have two CD/DVD-ROM drives in your system make sure you set the Master CD/DVD-ROM here & not the slave CD/DVD-ROM drive.
3rd Boot Device should be the primary [SATA1 drive], connected to SATA1 port on the motherboard. See page 2-30 section 2.6.2
The drive with windows installed shoud be listed as 1st.
Save your changes & exit the bios. Your system will auto re-start.
If you had a working operating system on the drive it should load.

If you need the motherboard manual or drivers you can download them from Asus web site link below;

Cheers!

New sata LG dvd room,it work correctly, but i can't boot from it

In your bios change the settings for boot order,

1: DVD Rom
2: n/a
3: n/a
4...
5...
6...

This will force a boot off the only drive available which is the dvd rom.

I CAN'T boot from CD on SATA

Hi,
Have you set the jumpers on the SATA drive to PRIMARY DRIVE?(first drive)
Google a picture if you are unfamiliar with this. Its simple to change.

The most likely problem is that your bios is not set up to boot to that drive first.(or at all)
Go into your bios (it usually says which key to press on start up in the black screen) it could be F1 key or DEL key or F2.
Once in, be very careful not to mess anything up. You can always choose 'DO NOT SAVE CHANGES and EXIT' without worrying you have done anything wrong. Nothing will save any changes you have made, unless you specifically tell it to save, ok ?

Look through the bios options until you see 'first boot device' (its probably under 'advanced options)use arrow keys and ENTER and ESC to move around in the screens.
you can change which device your computer boots to first. (by highlighting it and then using your = and - keys.)in your case, you want to select 1) sata CD drive 2) hard drive and you can make your 3rd device your other CD if you like.(if this is in fact an ALL IN ONE SATA DVD reader and writer, then it should be the ONLY DVD or CD on your system.)
use your arrow buttons to move around in the bios settings.
you can always exit without saving and leave your system the way it was.*S*
But once you have it set to boot in this order correctly ESCape out of that screen until you see SAVE AND EXIT
Your computer will then reboot and you should be in business.
I trust this is the correct solution. If not please submit specifics about your computer model and the model of CD you are installing.Good luck

NI8 SATA DVD Drive compatability

You must have added the SATA drive after setting up the IDE. If both drives are using the same os this will not function. Ony one drive can have the os on it. All SATA's are seen as a master.
To correct this problem, disconnect the IDE drive. Hook up the SATA drive. Again if the SATA has the os on it everything will run. Change the jumper on the IDE and set it as a slave. Hook the IDE up. Enter the bios & do not list the IDE in the boot to section. Problem solved. While in windows, format the IDE drive.
You do not want windows thinking you want a dual boot system.
So you understand, in the bios -boot settings this is how things should be listed.
Boot device 1 Sony Optiarc DVD drive
Boot device 2 WD raptor SATA, In-stall your os to this drive

Sata DVD Ausus using K8V-MX

TRy to load the "optimized bios default setting" in your bios setup. If not solve the problem maybe in your windows issue.

try to boot up windows in safe mode and then start it normally and let the windows fixed the problem on it.

if still problem exist maybe you need to repair your windows installation using the new SATA DVD to resolve problem regarding the issue. or reinstall it. (Note: important files was no guarantee to retain, backup files when doing this).

System wont work with new Mptherbard

Boot into the BIOS and look at the settings. Is the correct hard drive selected as the boot device? Are the IDE settings correct? Does it have an SATA or PATA hard drive?

When you change motherboards it's a good idea to write down the BIOS settings of the old board before you remove it. Probably too late for that now.

No DVD-ROM boot

If you have put a Windows system disc in your dvd drive, then re boot your pc should find your cd then say press enter, but if it's stopping before you get there, an error has occured. Did you hear 2 beeps(not together) Go back into the bios and go into the 'standard cmos settings' and at the bottom you will see a line saying 'halt on all errors'. Also check that your HD drives are listed as they should be; and not an old drive, if you have changed your drive that is. Dissable this and save settings and try booting again to your dvd drive.
