Power surge in house, now Sony KV-36XBR800 will not turn on. Friend said a capacitor gets blown. I found one of the two large 1200uF/250v capacitors with a bowed-out top. if I replace this, will the problem be solved?

Diagnosis for Magnavox 32MD251D/37

Symptoms:

• Will not power on

• Once on, if turned off power might not return

• Does not respond to power cycling

Possible Culprits:

• Overloaded fuse

• Damaged/fried power board

• Damaged/fried inverter board

• Damage to wiring or related

• Overloaded capacitors on power board - I identified this based on a visual inspection and a multi meter test

Problems Identified:

• Capacitor 2079 appears overloaded - 1200uf 35v

• Capacitor 2080 appears overloaded - 1200uf 35v

Explanation:

• The capacitors referenced regulate the voltage controlling the power. These caps have a limited lifetime in hours which is usually around 3000. The device was left on for an extended period of time overloading these essential components.

Resolution:

1. I will order a set of replacement capacitors

2. Discharge board prior to work

3. Remove and replace damaged capacitors

Required Parts (total cost $30):

• (2) Vented axial 1200uF 35v Capacitors - $8

• Variable wattage soldering iron (minimum 35w) - $22

Your power supply board is dead, do you know basic electronics' and soldering? Most of the times, the power supply board just have dead leakages gases capacitors.These capacitors always bulges up on it top,or puff up on it top.Replaced these gases leakages capacitors will get your TV power stable,and work again.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

Sounds like you've got a short in your house electrical lines. Try using a surge protector (AKA power strip) between the power cord and wall outlet. If you've already got a surge protector, try replacing it.

Its power supply issue and you need service manual to repair power supply on component level.
Get service manual from Manual Zone with little fee and test power out.
KV-27V25 is 1996 model and very much old.

For 6 blinks Pls check following area.

Low HV Shutdown:
On the D Board.
Check IC8004/pin 7 should be 7.4v.
Check IC8006/pin 2 should be 2.5v if lower will trigger shutdown by causing pin 1 to turn on.
Check IC8006/pin 3 reference voltage 2.2v.
IC8006/pin 1 normally at 0v. If high
turns D5007 ON which turns the latch circuit Q6532,
Q6530, and Q6527 ON and turns the AC relay RY6501 OFF.

And NOTE: 6 blinks also can be Low B+ protection.

Unregulated 7.5 v from the power supply to 5v reg IC504 on the A Board. 5v to M Board Q2314

to CPU IC2300/pin 43. If 5v missing set will shutdown with 6 blinks.I think this will help you to solve this issue..

For safety reason you should replaced them ( Horizontal ic,Vertical ic, Deflection ic) and olso all the big capasitor nearest the ic....that's my version....if you have big budget for it....he..he....
