When you take pictures without the internal card , they get stored inside the camera internal memory (usually 8 or 16 MB only).

Connect the camera to a computer using a data cable, without putting any memory card inside the camera. The camera internal memory will be displayed as a new external usb disk on computer.

I hope you didn't format the card because that erases the pics forever. You could get a separate card reader and try to download them that way. You could take the card to a store like Walmart and plug the card into one of their picture making machines. When your pics show up, you can print them or even make a cd of them.

This is an old posting but I'd like to comment that once the memory card is used in a computer it won't read in the camera again until you format the memory card. Make sure you have all your pictures on the computer before formatting the memory card. A memory card must be formatted in the camera it is going to be used in.

Your CF pins in the camera are most likely bent/broken. This is a very common problem. Most repair shops will charge $150-$200 to repair this.

Hope this helps.

Took pictures with CF Card

I think your SON has told a bit of a lie unless the camera has modified filmwhere in which the photos are saved to the buffer. THough I would dought this is possible as buffers normal are cleared as soon as power goes off. Saving to the buffer would also allow you to store up to 8 photos.

Such a modification may create other proublems, as such I would go to canon and download the latest filmwhere straight away.

Err CF

TRy and reformat the CF card through the camera. Youll lose the pics for sure but you cant see them anyway. You can also check for bent pins in the CF slot. Sometimes if you shut down the camera in mid write to the card, itll mess up the cards FAT (file directory)

Switch on - Switch off! Coolpix3100

Coolpix uses SD cards, not CF. Anyway, try using the camera without memory card, only with internal memory. If it works, then replace memory card.
