You need a new heating element. Check it for continuity with a digital multimeter.

Can I wash the cooker hood carbon filter

No! The material is impregnated with minute carbon granules which will have absorbed all the grease and moisture coming from the cooker, like little pieces of coke (smokeless fuel!!). If the filter is a cartridge type, a search on Google for the model may help. Search under "cooker extractor spares". If it's a cloth type, there are numerous cheap shop choices for universal filter material that you just trim to fit.

Cooker hood installation

A cooker hood needs to done by a competent qualified Electrician but basically depending on your surface of the cooker hood.Depending on the type of cooker hood you have(extract or outside) If it is a extraction (meaning you are using filters and not connected to a vent) The Electrician needs to connect the electric to a point or spur via a power switch on the wall which when you fit up the main part of the hub covers the spur. after that you need to measure and fit the cooker hood to your requirements but make sure your walls can support it and mark off the holes before drilling or check the walls for electric wires in terms of safety.

Problem with cooker hood

Filters clean? Fan running? No clogs in the exhaust?

On the one hand, you want the disagreeable stuff out of the kitchen - on the other hand, you want to keep your heated or cooled home air to stay inside.

I've bought a new cooker hood that filters the air and then re-circulates it. At what minimum height from the ceiling should it be fitted?

Its not the ceiling height that matters its the height above the cooker or hob thats important. Above a gas burner the bottom of the hood should be at least 750mm, above electric burner 650mm . This measurement should be taken from the highest point of the cooker top.

Neff cooker hood

the manual i have says that the charcoal filters inside need changing about every 6 months. take out the grease filters then you should be able to turn it and take them out. you may not have these if the extractor vents to the outside. the grease filters can be cleaned with a neutral detergent and then put back in. Make sure the electric is off before you do any of this. Hope this makes sense and helps!
