Front loader washing machine = black streaks on clothing

We have a kenmore extra capacity front loader that is about 7 years old but works good. Recently, we have had large amounts of our clothing ruined. We are noticing black spots/streaks on the clothing after wash that is virtually impossible to remove. Can't seem to figure it out. Husband cleaned out the fabric sofener box and cleaned around the rubber seal against the door. Still no solution. HELP!!!! Kim

We came back from Texas coast and washed a load of clothes. We got sharp black streaks on nearly all the items. I thought it was a piece of tar in someone's pocket, but after washing out the machine and doing load after test load, the streaks keep coming. Sometimes more, sometimes less. My husband had remarked that the washer sounded way louder in spin than it used to. Now I think that the streaks and loudness are the bearing problem described here. FYI, if you catch the streaks before drying, use Dawn Dishwashing liquid on the stains and soak or place in plastic bags overnight. Then wash (perhaps at a laundry mat) and you have a good chance of getting the streaks out. We were able to -- but what a pain!

Have had this problem twice now. Unit is about 7 years old. After wash cycle a large amount of black sticky debris covers the door seal area and agitator bars. It spreads and is extreemly difficult to remove as it smears when rubbed.

I am a recently retired engineer of 20 years once you have ruled out anything getting inside the machine by accident etc, like something in pockets or greasy overalls, then its likely to be the drum bearings, has the machine started to get noisy on the spin the drum bearings are covered by a rubber seal, this seal gets damaged or worn and water leaks into the bearings themselves washing out the grease back into the drum where the washing is, you could also notice slight water marks on the floor underneath the machine on the floor, take the back off and look for water marks coming from the drum outer casing behind the pulley, these marks will be brown and will originate from a small drain hole, if any of the above change the bearings before any real damage is done, either to the clothes or the machine, as repair can be expensive? sorry, hope i have helped you as to where to look at least,

We bought a kenmore front loading heavy duty washing machine with 2-way tumble in Feb 2003. Recently two problems have become evident. First, our clothes have started to have black marks (streaks and...

Likely the cause is grease from a failing rear bearing.

Unfortunately, it's cheaper to buy a new washer than to fix this one. That's pathetic for a washer that's only 8 years old, and completely negates any environmental and economic benefits of buying a front loader.

Which is better a top loader or front loader washing machine?

Front Loading Washing Machine: Fully automatic.
1. Better washing than toploading as technologically proofed.
2. No extra effort except putting cloths and detergent inside.
3. No need to observe in between while washing. Start and forgot. You can go market and come back.
4. No issue if electricity or water went out during washing.
4. Take more water compare to toploading semi-automatic.
5. You can not open it once it started.

Top Loading Washing Machine: Semi
1. Save water and detergent.
2. Need extra effort to put the cloth from one box to another.

Kenmore washer 3.5 super capacity. Machine spins

It sounds like your tub bearing is bad or going bad. It could be the adjustment on your spin cycle. Does your unit allow you to adjust this. Also are you overloading. Can you send me the brand and model of your unit and I help you more.

Oil on clothes front loading kenmore washing machine 7 years old

Oil cannot get on clothes from a front loader . It's probably the liquid fabric softener you are using . Either try a different brand , use dryer sheets instead , or make sure the water temperature is correct for the softner . Also check the front drum seal , for built up , undisolved softner , collecting " gunk " which may be getting on the clothes .

My front load kenmore leaves faint dark streaks in

look carefully inside the tub, gasket, lid. There may be some debris of some sort stuck somewhere causing this problem.

Then run the machine adding only two cups of vinegar. this will clean it.

Laundry smells like mildew after washing

Front load washers retain water that you cant see or get to. There are cleaners for washing machines available. I clean mine every month with alot of bleach , try pouring a half gallon of bleach in the soap insert on a normal wash cycle and an extra rinse would not hurt no clothes of course.
