How do the staples stay in place in my stanley 1/4" stapler? They slide back and forth and therefore aren't in place for the stapler to work?

When you lift up the top of the stapler (as though you are going to put staples in), does the pusher slide freely back and forth? It might be getting stuck at some point and not pushing the staples (either due to a worn pusher spring, or friction). First (after removing the staples) try spraying some light oil on the mechanism and lifting the top part of the stapler up and down a few times and observe how easily it moves back and forth. Also, with the top open try GENTLY sliding back and forth a little - if it slides fine with no sticking, try loading staples and using stapler. If it slides ok, but doesn't quickly return to it's "normal position" when pulled so as to put tension on the spring, rhen the spring may be worn and need replacing.

Most staplers load from the rear, but not the TR250 Sharpshooter.

With the stapler upside down and the sliding rail out drop a whole strip of staples in the channel upside down (points up) and then push the slider back in making sure it locks.

"The staples load from the rear of the stapler. At the back end of the is a piece of black plastic that extends beyond the end of the stapler. This device holds the staples inside the stapler. To open the area where the staples are placed, push this extended button and lift up on it. The spring device that holds the staples inside the stapler will then slide out. Place a new strip of staples inside the stapler on top of the two metal guide rails. Then insert the spring device to lock the staples in place. The stapler is now loaded and ready to work. The case of the stapler is glued together. To open the case requires carefully sawing it along the seams. The paper switch is spring loaded but the spring is built into the switch. It is possible that something is jamming it.

pull out the spring at the end of the gun. turn the staple gun upside down. Lay the staples in the track pointed side up, push in the spring slide so that it locks. You are ready to staple.
