I was getting "my vision is blocked" and my bumper is stuck" even though my Neato (Winston) was in the middle of the floor with nothing around him. I discovered that he is sensitive about his garbage bin being fully empty and I blow it out with a quick burst of canned air each time I empty his bin. I also blow out the place on him where the garbage bin sits once a week. Also, twice a week I use a dry/slightly damp paper towel to wipe his front bumper and sensors off and spray his whole body and every crevice with the canned air. Now, I get no more error messages and he is a happy, helpful little guy. The entire maintenance/TLC process takes 2 minutes twice a week and we are both content. ??

Dust off your drop sensors. Using a cotton swab, clean the two drop
sensor windows on the bottom of your Neato Vacuum. Power cycle the unit, removing the batteries if necessary. You should be good to go.

My Neato XV1 says it's vision is blocked. I have cleaned everything-used pressure air, wiped off all vision eyes but it still says it's vision is blocked. What else can I do?

There are several errors that can occur for unknown reasons if your batteries are not working properly. How old are the batteries? There is a piece of software designed by Neato users which can diagnose issues with your Neato, including getting a map of the lidar scans. Search for the download on the site robotreviews [dot] com in the Neato forum.

How to fix the neato vacuum

It's a great design BUT the weak point in the design is the quality of the 100uF electrolytic capacitors that they use on the main board. After 2-3 years these cause problems with the Neato not turning on (dim green lights only) and its vision gets worse so it has problems with eratic cleaning patterns and can't redock itself.

in this video we show show to fix all those issues by changing the main board capacitors. It's like new again now! See it redocking itself late on in the video, it is about 50ft away in another room and comes back for charging!

Here is a video showing a quick temporary fix and the full fix showing the change of all the electrolytic capacitors.

My Neato XV-12 runs for only a few seconds and stop. The message says, please dust me off I cant see. I have dust and cleaned my neato and it still says the same thing. How do I fix this problem?

Hi Guys
I've fully dismantled my Neato XV-21 to locate the source of the "can't see" problem. (And also replaced a tight wheel Motor causing a "something is caught in my right wheel" message)
There several screws underneath the Neato XV-21 that must be undone to allow the top to be separated. A bit of a pain just to get into the visual sensor area. But not too hard with an electric screwdriver.
There is a Laser device & a Photo sensor mounted to a black plastic rotating wheel which is covered by a black cap with 2 holes in it. One hole for laser beam to exit & one to pick up return laser light return data. They are both rotated by a motor & pulley via a rubber "o" ring which could slip, break or get hairs caught in it.
These could be the source of problems. Once mine was cleaned & checked I had no more problems. Then the wheel motor got tight. Replacing the motor fixed the problem. This requires hoping the Motor Gear Box assembly out by poping the pivot shaft out of it's plastic holder. Then disconnect the spring & cable connector. But you bust be prepared to carefully remove the magnet off the motor shaft (vice & 2 flat blade screw drivers) then unsolder the small PCB at 2 points. With practice (twice) I can now replace a motor in 20-30 minutes.
Hope this Helps some Neato Users out there
Cheers
Trevor

Neato won't charge

Hi, it's Jeremy from Crucial Vacuum.

Try charging your Neato vacuum directly with the plug. If you take apart the dock you will find the plug inside. Plug that plug directly into Neato and charge the Neato until its light is green. If your Neato's Battery charges and it works ok, reassemble the base with the charger making sure that the plug you plugged into your Neato is plugged FIRMLY into its connector inside the base.

You can purchase direct your replacement Neato parts from Crucial Vacuum with free shipping and an exclusive 10% coupon for Fixya.com readers, use code: FIXYA10

3000 code

Vision on the robot is through a laser spinning under the turret. If the laser is not spinning, or if there is an obstruction (like dust) under the turret, you can get this message.

If you look under the turret with a cellphone or other digital camera, you should be able to see the laser light register on the phone/camera screen (and it should be spinning). If you can't see a spinning laser, it means the LIDAR unit is defective. If you can see a spinning laser, try blowing under the turret (lightly, using your mouth or a can of compressed air) to hopefully dislodge any obstruction.

Vacuum stops every few minutes and give "please clear my Path" message (7 times in 30 minutes). There is nothing blocking its path. rollers are clean, dump bin is clean, new filter, q-tipped...

If you have made sure all of the sensors are clear, and the moving parts (wheels, beater brush, etc) are free, then it could be a software issue.
