Puron leak 23 mon old airconditioner leaking puron. 5 service calls, sniffing for puron negative cannot find. Now local company wants to replace coil. Leak test initially not positive but now after five calls it is leaking. Lost about 10 lbs of puron within one month. What the heck is going on?

Tell him you already had it done. lol. Unless you misunderstood what he told you no! You don't need to replace the Refrigerant weather it's Puron or Freon. It doesn't wear out. Ever. If your system develops a leak and you loose the Refrigerant it will have to be replaced but you will know you lost it because the system won't cool and heat like it's supposed to. I would report the installer to the better business bureau.

the outside unit is cycleing on a low pressure switch you need to call for service you have a leak and the system needs to be recharged afte the leak has been fixed

the system must be leak checked, refrigerant recovered, evacuated, a drier installed, and recharged to the correct subcooling, (I assume this is a carrier since you reference "puron")
the low side pressure seems to be in line the high side pressure would be low depending on operating conditons, these systems must be charged using superheat and subcooling methods, pressures are just a "starting point"

If the upstairs is working and the down stairs is not,You only need to have one unit checked,Don't assume it just needs puron(If it does,You have a leak,which cost more to locate and repair than some other likely causes)This is not something you can do yourself and is illegal if you are not EPA certified.to get a fair price would depend on your geographic location and the best way would be to call around to some local heating and air companies and ask how much a service call is.(That only tells you the price for them to came and see what the problem is,They will not be able to quote a price until they know what must be done to make the repairs.

yup, entire system needs to be drained, and leak needs to be repaired first before charging with freon.

after sealing the leak and test it is ok, evacuate the system for about 30 mins before charging it.

you may need a qualified tech to do that because you can not buy freon now a days.

you need to weld the leak also. you will need portable torch to weld copper pipes.

you will need vacuum pump to evacuate the system before charging with freon 22.

Portable units are supposed to spray the water on to the hot compressor an evaporate the water!
If it is only 3 weeks old ,you have a 1 year warranty. call service and let them fix it for !

You do have a leak and it will be in the evaporator. So call a factory authorized company and have it replaced.The warranty of a Sub Zero sealed system is full parts and labor for years 1-5 and parts only in year 6-12. the stem kit, boot seal is worn and leaking. if not repaired soon the bearings on the tub and on the brake package will start to rust and sound like a train going by. After 15 years of service its probably time to replace. Call your local service company and get an estimate on replacement of the seals and weigh that against the cost of replacement of machine. hope this helps. please come back and rate my answer.

Hi, Sounds like the freon has leaked out of the unit and its time to call a repair company. The leak is probably the source of the oil. A service tech will find the leak, repair it if possible, recharge the unit and you will be cool again. Sounds like there is a lot of oil so the leak may be very obvious. Good luck.
