How do I remove the "Slide Cover"?

First remove the six screws on the back cover. The top of the calculator will be still attached by three clips. Twist the calculator slightly to make the lower end of the gray part of the calculator pop up from the black base. Pry the base off by applying gentle pressure or by prying the sides outward. Be sure to short out the "reset" button after changing the batteries, by rubbing a coin over it.

How do you graph a step function

Graphing calculator can graph step functions. You need to learn the syntax of the command for the different calculators. As to showing an open point, I am not sure it pertinent. The resolution is limited and the calculator has to use finite increments to draw points. The last drawn pixel may be as close to your open point as possible but you should not see the open point (it is skipped, isn't it?

My graphing calculator won't graph anything. I've entered many equations into y=. I even tried to type in a simple linear equation to see if it would even do that. Nothing happened. The window...

You do not say if you get any error message.
Try to reset the calculator Press [2nd][+] to open memory management.
Press [7][RESET] followed by [1:All RAM] [2:Reset]
Then open the Y= editor and to the right of Y1= type in [X,T,theta,n] and press [ENTER]. You will see the straight line y=x.
Please report back what you get.

I'm doing simple division 477/5 and all I get is 477/5

Remove the battery off the unit and set it back , now make sure all the switches are set correct, the pads are not depressed.
If so the calculator should work. If not open clean the pads and reset.

Convert between decimal and binary and back again with this calculator

Sorry but this calculator cannot do calculations in other numerations just decimal. To make sure examine the calculator looking for markings like BIN OCT HEX. If you do not find any (and you will not) then you can be sure that it does not perform base conversions.

Coffee was spilled on the calculator. How can it be fixed?

I am not sure if you will depends on how much water coffee reached the motherboard inside. Sometimes you can open them up with a screwdriver and let it air out for 24hrs and then try. If after 24hrs it doesn't come back on you might have to get another one. It truely depends on if anything shortened out.

Cannot load new paper roll into the calculator so it catches

Replacing the paper roll involves feeding the evenly cut, uniform end of the roll through the fine slot located under the paper arm at the back of the calculator. (Even if the paper is only slightly wrinkled or cut unevenly, it will not feed through the teeth in the loading area.)
When getting ready to feed the paper into the calculator, envision your printout feeding out of the machine away from you and back toward the paper roll. Don't insert it upside down.
To get the paper feeding through once you have partially fed it into the teeth, gently tap the paper feed button. Once or twice should do it. (The button is located on the far top left of the control panel, indicated by an arrow jagged saw mark icon).
Then, slide the paper roll onto the feeder arm and you're in business.

How do I change the batteries of my TI-30Xa?

According to TI's guidebook for this calculator (get it here), you just separate the case back from the front. It may be that there are tabs that snap together as well. If you're sure you have all the screws out, try starting to separate the halves with your fingernail at the bottom edge. Once it's started it should come apart. We have a bunch of TI calculators at the school where I work (not that model) and some of them have been tough to open at first.

Connection

I just bought mine and ran into the same problem. The fix is easy. First you need to make sure that the software is correctly installed. I installed mine and when trying to connect, couldn't. I had the unit turned on.

a. Because of reading the manual, I turned off my calculator - reconnected it to the computer via the cable. Had the CD (Casio CD) in the drive. The computer reinstalled the software after it auto-turned on the calculator and it worked.

b. Next time I ran into the problem. I had just had it connected to the computer and was editing a program. I exited the calculator and later tried to re-connect and couldn't.

I found that I had to make sure that the calculator is off. Also, you have to make sure that on the software (if it is open all the while) you hit the button at the left side window for the calculator that tells it to disconnect. If it is shown to be disconnected, the connect the calculator while off. It will auto-connect. The rest is easy.
