Every time i plug the car charger in for my Magellan maestro 3225 i get the usb is connected to PC please make sure battery is fully charged or power is connected to ensure transfer of files.... i called there tech support it was like talking to my 4 year old niece any help would be greatly appreciated
Two exact solutions to this problem. I'm a electrical engineer and have figured Magellan GPS chargers out(sneaky you know what's..)
OK.
1) Mini USB ports wear out. They do have spring loaded gold connections, but over time, dirt gets in there and causes a loss of connectivity, so take care of them and try and clean them if they need it.
2.) Magellan GPS auto chargers are not standard chargers. They use what's called a USB 2.0 Mini-B "TYPE-A" plug. The "type-A" is important. There are 5 little pins inside that mini connector. 1:Power, 2:Data -, 3:Data +, 4:Ground, and 5:Ground. That #4 ground is important(that's what makes their charge cable unique). A regular Mini-B USB cable (like the one you connect to your computer) does not have pin-4 (ground) connected. It's left floating in plastic. So you can spend your hard earned money (like I did) and buy a bunch of USB cables trying to find one to work, but it has to be USB 2.0 mini-B TYPE-A..don't forget. Also, the Magellan charger pushes 5.2 V at a short circuit current of 1.9 Amps. That's a lot of power. Standard chargers push about 500mA to 900mA of current. The higher the current, the faster the charge. But the main trick that Magellan uses is the damn TYPE-A cables. If you don't use type A. You'll get that message "you have connected to a USB..yada..yada...yada.." , bunch of milkylickers over there at Magellan.
I got the same screen this morning when I plugged mine in too. I finally got frustrated and called Magellan tech support. One of the previous posters was absolutely correct in his accessment of their support system. Anyway, tech support told me it was probably a bad car adapter. He suggested I fax them my proof of purchase and if it was still under warranty that they would send me another charger. I decided to try another adapter I had around the house and this fixed the problem immediately. I think somewhere along the way I got my Blackberry car charger mixed up with my Magellan gps adapter. Hope this is what your problem is.
Hey there i just unlock it
1-pin in the board from right to left is ground
2-pin in non valid
3-pin connected to the first will unlock your computer connected screen
and from left to right first one is +5v
I found one thing to work so far. I simply blow into the connector to make sure there is no dust particles on any of the pins. It has worked fine since. After fighting with my GPS almost a year, it occured to me that maybe dust was keeping the GPS system from recognizing all of the pins in the connector, thus thinking it was the usb cord instead of the charger. I would never have figured this out if I hadn't been reading other posts saying that the USB has one less pin.

I have the magellan maestro 5310 and I am getting the exact same screen...Im not even sure if its charging
Same thing here! I will be enroute somewhere and need to plug in my charger.....and oh well. I just get the message that USB is plugged in. So far I cannot find a solution. Sometimes it helps if I get it on a map and THEN plug it in...it will continue mapping. However, it will start doing it again after about a week of working correctly.
