Whats up guys, I just got this new Onkyo HT-SR800 system, and I have everything hook up except I am not able to get any sound when my TV and DVD player are on, I have the HDMI cable hooked up from my reciever to my TV, another HDMI cable from reciever to cable box, and another one from DVD player to reciever. I am able to get picture, but no sound except from the TV speakers themselves. I know I have my speaker wires in properly because the FM radio is working fine. Please help if possible, hopefully this makes sense to someone.

Hi...the HT-R800 Home Theater system has the HT-R550 receiver which could only carry Video via HDMI. you would need to connect a separate audio cale(Optical Audio Cable) to be able to get audio out of the PS3 to the receiver. Once you have hooked up an Optical Audio Cable you would need to go in the PS3 setup and putin Bitstream and Optical in the Audio Setup menu.
If you call Onkyo directly, 201-785-2600, there is a procedure to "reset" the system, something like holding the power button on and holding down another button for a few seconds. Can't remember which, so I can't be sure, but try giving them a call.
To me it sounds like you might have blown a channel(s). The speakers that you are using with unit, did they come with it? If not you need to check the ohms of the speakers. It looks like the Onkyo HT-SR800 can only handle a minimum of 8 ohms. If your unit is under warranty definately send it in for repair
Do you want to run all your cables thru the receiver? There really is
no benefit for you to do this since that receiver doesn't handle HDMI
audio nor do any kind of component to HDMI conversion. Might as well
connect your tivo box directly to the TV with HDMI. You'll have to switch inputs on your TV between
the cable box, but its not a big deal.
ya i have tried that already
