SOURCE: wire Hayward Super Pump for 115

If you look closely, you should see a small arrow on the black plastic piece on the terminal block(jumper). That arrow lines up with either the 115 or 230 mark on the white terminal board. Make sure it is aligned with the 115.

Then put you two line wires on. It does not matter which wire goes to line 1 and line 2, just be sure you DO NOT put them both on the same terminal. A plastic divider usually seperates the two line connection terminals.

Reverse direction of electric motor

If your motor runs backwards, you wired the motor backwards. Change your wires around and it will run the correct way.

How do I remove impeller from motor? Is there bolt or does it screw off? It appears head of bolt is sheared off.

The impellar spins off counterclockwise on most pumps. The hard parts are holding the motor shaft from rotating and finding a way to grip the impellar.

I just installed a New 1 hp Hayward Super Pump. The electrical service is a 20amp GFCI breaker> Old pump was a plug in connection, re-used the existing wiring. I changed the internal connection on the...

I see what you said ... still I want to say the following: It is to your benefit to keep the motor at 220 VAC ... Since you want to run it on 120 (I presume the motor is internally wired for 120 now - right?) did you change the white wire in your pannel to the neutral bus making the line 120? Also check the motor that it is wired for 120. It sounds to me like you did the line but not the load.

If the line and the load are both correct the next thing to check would be the start capacitor. It should be good since this is a new motor ... but it is not running. Have it checked.

My Hayward just hums when I turn it on and after a few seconds the breaker pops.

You will need to disassemble the pump and check the impeller. remove any debris and try turning the impeller by hand. If it does not move or is dragging, you will need to overhaul the pump. Possibly a shaft seal leak has damaged the motor bearing(s). Replace the shaft seal and motor bearings. If the motor is badly deteriorated, you might need to replace the motor. Note... the impeller turns counterclockwise to loosen. you may need special tools to grip and hold the motor shaft and the impeller to prevent damage to the impeller. If the impeller is seized on the shaft from rust, you may have to break it to get it off. reassemble with teflon lubricant on the shaft threads when reinstalling the impeller. This will prevent seizure later.

Hayward Heat Pro Electric won't stay running

from the Hayward support site....

Why is my pump cutting off and on every 5-10 seconds?
  • Hayward motors are factory wired for 240 volts unless the motor is 120 volts ONLY. Check the voltage of the incoming supply power and ensure the motor is wired or can be wired for this voltage (data plate on motor will help provide voltage and wiring information). Also check for loose or badly connected wires. Contact a certified electrician for repair.
