SOURCE: I have a Ink System Failure.

I had this same problem but with a different error code. Try doing:
1. Unplug the power cord from printer.
2. Hold both o.k and Cancel simultaneously.
3. Plug the power cable while holding the buttons.

After I did this my printer reconfigured like it used to do and it was like it was new again.... well new plus a headache a managed to get while reading all these little posts. I hope this helps!

SOURCE: Ink System Failure (Error 0xc05d1381)

Don't waste your time on the copy and paste HP solution above.
If you really want to fix your printer:

Okay, HERE IS THE ACTUAL FIX FOR THIS ERROR.

1. Disconnect your USB cable.
2. Turn off the printer.
3. Press and hold down these four buttons at the same time:
OK, Cancel, Black, Color.
4. While still holding them down hit the power button once.
5. It will Blink.
5. Hit the power button again.
6. Continue holding until you get a message on the screen.
7. Allow the printer to sequence through and there you go.
Enjoy.

How to get rid of 'non-hp ink cartridge installed' warning that pops up everytime you try to print. The ink cartridge is not a guenuine hp product.

Download latest HP software and install it. After installed go into settings and dig thru it until you find the ink monitor settings, un check box and reboot computer and printer. The monitor should now be off. HP lost the lawsuit and was supposed to add an update to allow users to disable the ink monitors on most of their printers. Some are not under the lawsuit conditions so if you have one of these there is no way to defeat it, its all handled in printer IC board and not windows.

How to open and replace the ink cartridge from my 6500a plus

Simple, turn on your HP OJ 6500A printer and open top cover...carriage should move to cartridge access position. If not, then the service station may be in the way or the PRINTHEAD assembly is not properly locked down causing an error condition. Power supply could also cause this kind of failure.

For information on North American ink refill services (i.e. HP920 and HP920XL ink cartridges) at a major retailer near you (should you wish to save ~50% on ink costs), general printing problem resolutions or advanced HP Officejet 6500, 6500A, 6500A Plus, 7000 and 7500A printer diagnosis procedures (advanced cartridge diagnostic tests/cartridge error bypass & printer reset methods, etc.), please visit Inkjet411: http://www.inkjet411.com

My HP1 office jet 6500A will not copy. Why?

Hello,

Please try the below steps..
1> While the printer is ON, unplug the power cord from back of the printer.
2> Wait for 30 seconds.
3> Plug in the power cord directly into a Wall Outlet ( by pass the surge / power strip),and then to the printer. The printer should automatically power on. If not press the ON button to do so.
4> Now try making a Copy. It should work. Else check the level of ink in the cartridges.

Hp printer officejet #6500A plus manual how to use printer

Manuals and drivers for the 6500A Plus are available here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=4083977&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us . Support for the 6500A is here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=4083871&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us .

Most of the printers work the same way. Install the software before you connect the printer to the computer. If you are going to use a wireless connection, you need to install the software then connect a USB cable and then continue the installation before disconnecting the USB cable and going to the wireless connection.

The scan buttons on the unit will only work if the full software is installed and set up (scan from the computer first) and the monitoring program is running.

For more specific information, please indicate the connection type and the OS that you are using.
