Have you tried a Master Re-set when the phone is off? Hold the center key and the power button for at least a FULL minute to a minute and a half. You will see the provider's splash screen, but hang tough.
This works best with the device on a flat surface rather than holding it.
I want to put my Q in bootloader mode to see if I can get the Motorola update to run. Does anyone know the key combo to make it do this? I thought it was "A" + "Shift" + "Power".

I downloaded the motorola software updater and connect the phone via usb cable to the computer and updated the software. Once it was finished it restarted the phone and all was good. You lose all your information on the phone but at least you can save the phone with no cost. This solution may not work for everyone and I am sorry if it does not work for you. It however did work for me. Good luck.

I have a moto q that is in flash mode please help me fix this!!
I just unbricked a Moto Q with these instructions. Be sure that every time the USB is found and Active Sync is started on the Desktop, dispatch the "Cannot find email client..." message and minimize Active Sync. It takes 3 boot cycles to reload the software and the longest delay imaginable but it did work.
You can get it out of flash mode. READ MY POST.
To sum it up, I've found that the usb cable that comes with the Motorola Q is complete $hit. I've ordered 8 Moto Q's and had this problem with two of them. Each usb cable that came with each Q was crap. Windows didn't recognize the Q correctly with it - ESPECIALLY in bootflash mode.
I don't know why but the usb cable that came with my old Nextel BlackBerry 7510 worked every time like a charm, when the one with the Q wouldn't work.
To get the Moto Q out of flash mode here's EXACTLY what I did.
1. Download and install the Motorola update software for the Motorola Q (available through the Motorola website).
2. Get yourself a blackberry 7510 usb cable from a sprint/nextel store (take the thing back after you're done with it if you aren't entirely convinced that it's superior to the crap cables Motorola is shipping with the Q's - Sprint should let you return hardware (cables) for a full refund; just tell them you bought the wrong one and it doesn't fit your phone (make a phone model up that doesn't take a usb cable).
3. Turn OFF your phone.
4. Launch the Motorola update software (after it's been installed of course).
5. Connect your phone (while it is off) to your computer via the blackberry 7510 usb cable.
6. Click NEXT on the update software until it gets to the point where it is trying to search for your phone (connected device). Immediately turn the phone on once this process has begun.
Your phone may go into the dreaded "Flash mode" screen, but now that it is connected to your computer and the Motorola update software is running it will recognize the connected device (yes, even though windows mobile 5 isn't running) and will re-flash the device.
If at all it says that it cannot find any connected devices, go back to the start of the update software process and leave the phone on from the start as you make it search for connected devices again.
I brought 2 Motorola Q's out of a constant "flash mode" screen this way.
Again, I have absolutely no idea why my blackberry 7510 usb cable works when the Motorola Q usb cable doesn't... they are BOTH usb cables and physically look identical - BUT THE MOTOROLA USB CABLES DO NOT WORK FOR ME, ON ANY OF THE 5 COMPUTERS I'VE ATTACHED THEM TO & ATTEMPTED TO USE THE MOTO Q UPDATE SOFTWARE ON.
If you happen to live in the San Francisco bay area, I'd be happy to meet up with you at a local starbucks or something to guide you through it if you'd like (I'll even bring my blackberry usb cable). These Moto Q's are a pain in the a$$ and if I can help someone avoid the BS I've had to put up with, I'm glad to do it.

To the Guest that posted solution #2 using the blackberry usb, or anyone else who thinks they can help. I have the same problem, with the Q being stuck in the bootloader flash screen, and I've also figured out how to reinstall the windows os using RSD Lite, but my phone won't stay powered on long enough for it to complete the process. It seemed like a couple days ago I was able to plug the phone in to charge and it would work, but now I'll leave it on for hours and it will turn off after just a minute or less of trying to do the reboot process. How could I charge it with it stuck in this mode? ALSO I've tried doing the motorola update software with my Q already and the usb cord I was using allowed my Q to be discovered by the computer, but said that there were no new updates available for the phone, so is it worth my time to go buy the blackberry usb, or will it not help me? i just got this phone. its used and i dont know who the carrier is or was. i cant turn it on, and when i plug it in to a wall charger it comes up as fash mode-bootloader version- and at the bottom says to plug in the usb cable.
