The fastest solution is to smear a very small amount of Vaseline around the REFRIGERATOR DOOR SEAL this will help hold the door sealed when the freezer door is opened and closed again.

The refrigerator needs to be perfectly leveled side to side dn should pitch back slightly. Also look at the plane of the doors, that is to say that they should be squared to the cabinet. If they are sagging, you may need to adjust the hinges.

The cause is the freezer is packed with food and the air has no place to go. The easiest solution is to smear a very small amount of Vaseline on the refrigerator door seal. This will help hold the door closed when the freezer door is opened and closed. If it rarely opened before you do not need to go through all the work of re levelling and adjusting

When I open the refrigerator the freezer pops open

I appreciate your inquiry, Tammy McAninch!

Based off the information you have provided your Frigidaire freezer door pops open when you open your refrigerator door. This can happen with new refrigerators because the seal is new. I understand your question is labeled under model FGHB2866PF. It could be issues with your door not aligned properly and hitting your freezer door to open. I would check the gasket to make sure they are creating the proper seal on your freezer in order to check that you can use a dollar bill. Place a dollar bill between the body of the freezer and close the door. The dollar bill should stay in place and pull out with a small amount of resistance. If the dollar bill falls out when placed between the gasket and cabinet double check to see if the door is being blocked by anything stopping it from closing it. If nothing is stopping the door from closing then replace the gasket. If you continue to experience issues with your freezer door I would recommend reaching out to a professional for further assistance. I hope this information helps to some degree. -Matt

The bottom freezer door on my Kenmore refrigerator 795.7900 pops open each time I close the top door. I have tried adjusting the leveling screws and it hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

Glen you keep adjusting but before that try to find this unusual problem. On its own, doesthe freezer door close witha thud? If not it needs adjustment otherwise other problems could surface.

GE refrigerator model #LTC19340ST freezer door not sealing

That is a common problem with over-under units. You can clean or replace the door seal or, tilt the unit back a TINY bit. The door pops open because there is a common airway from the freezer to the fridge. When the fridge door shuts too fast, it pushes a lot of air into the unit. It needs to go somewhere so, it pops the freezer door open. If you shut the freezer hard enough, you will be able to pop the fridge door open.

I don't have the exact model number of my refrigerator before me, but whenever I close the refrigerator door, the freezer door pops open.

That's normal. Don't shut it so hard. The only thing you can do to remedy this, is to replace the doorseals but, that's a pain, especially if they aren't very worn.

Frigidaire FRT17G4BW9 doors not staying closed

Adjust the front legs of your refrigerator slightly to raise the refrigerator. and and store items on the freezer door shelves to add weight. This is a problem of pneumatics and a testament to how tight newer refrigerators are. When you close the large refrigerator door it compresses the air in the refrigerator compartment. Both compartments are connected by air passages and thus the pressure change is transferred to the freezer causing the freezer door to pop open.

Raising the front of the refrigerator a tiny bit will help both doors close from the 90 degree point, which is desirable. Adding weight to the shelf will just help the process.

An additional aid in self-closure will be to use vegetable oil on a paper towel to wipe down the hinge side face of both door seals. All these maneuvers should aid in causing the door to stay closed and re-close if it should open slightly. Good Luck

Side by side freezer door pops open

This is a problem inherent with lots of refrigerators. Side by side or top freezer. The rush of air pops the doors. You might want to adjust the pitch of the box by adjusting the front wheels to a higher level.

Freezer door opens When you close refir. door

The freezer door is relatively light weight, and when the fresh foods door closes, the air has to go somewhere and the easiest escape route is to momentarily pop the freezer door open. The door should close again quickly. If is does not, make sure the freezer door liner is not touching the top or bottom, causing dragging resistance, and make sure that the front leveling legs are raised up so the door closes by it's self when released from a 45 degree opening. Sometimes the hinge side gasket rubs and holds things up also, especially if that area was cleaned. If that is the case, rub a film of wax on the hinge side gasket to lubricate it. Additional weight in the freezer door will also help.

Sub-zero 500 series refrigerator door wont stay closed

If Your Refrigerator's Freezer Door Pops Open When You Close the Fresh Food Door... If a 'top-freezer' refrigerator's freezer door pops open when the larger fresh food door's closed, it's actually a good thing. That tells us the seals are in great shape, sealing well.
Some freezer door 'pop' is unavoidable bc the bottom door's so much larger than the top one and the hydraulic effect of compressing all that air kicks in. The two compartments share the same air via a duct between them, and that compressed air rushes up into the freezer compartment and can 'pop' the door.
To improve the situation, apply a few drops of oil (sewing machine oil or 'three in one' - NOT WD-40) to each freezer door hinge pin. (Even better: if you can, pull the doors and coat the hinge pins with petroleum jelly). This will help the freezer door swing back closed by itself. The freezer door usually stays ajar because it's binding a bit, and that's usually caused by it's swinging 'dry', with no lubrication.
It’s also a good idea to ‘kick’ the habit of letting the refrig door close hard.

Refrigerator/freezer

Thank You very much for your quick response to my request for advice. I have solved the problem by placeing 2 metal washers on the bottom hinge of the top freezer door. Now the door seems to close tightly, and the freezer is working fine. Thank you again. Housewife from southern New Jersey.
