All iPod's are able to have music put on them using iTunes which is a free download from itunes.com. Depending on how the iPod was first setup, you might have to have it do a restore using iTunes to re-set it up if you are going from a Mac to a PC, but if it was first setup on a PC, it should be able to be used in iTunes on both systems. You might need to activate the iPod on your system to upload music to it though, which would take up one of your iTunes device activations.

If nobody has figured out this problem or if anybody else is having the same problem I have a solution that could possibly work. I had the same problem so I right clicked My Computer and went to Properties. Click on the Hardware tab, and then click on Device Manager. Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus controllers look for anything that may have a yellow exclamation point. Mine said something like Apple Ipod Driver or something along those lines. Right click that and click Update Driver... Then click Next and it should update it for you and work fine. Hopefully this will help anybody that is having this problem.

Mine does the same thing, I have discovered if I apply pressure, (using my thmb and index finger to squeeze), on the lower right corner of the ipod, just below the 5 0-Clock position of the menu ring I will get sound as long as the pressure is applied, when I release, it goes out again.

You cannot use the iPod touch with Windows Media Player, you can only use the iPod touch with iTunes. You need to download iTunes and when you install iTunes make sure it is set to automatically search your computer for music. iTunes will find all of your Windows Media Player songs, convert them for use on the iPod and then you can synchronize your iPod with the iTunes software.

If you want to hook it up to windows,..
go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
And download itunes for windows. then install it.
Then restart your computer and hook the ipod to the computer..
it should now be recognized and start itunes, which will allow you to transfer music on and off the ipod
