You will need a wireless router or wireless modem.
Not all ISP's provide modems with Wifi (wireless)
Can you tell us more on what specific hardware you have? and have you connected before?

I have a Dell Latitude D600. I can connect to the internet if my computer is plugged directly into my modem. When I disconnect from the modem and try to access the internet using wireless, I can not...

Your computer may be picking up the wireless networks in your area including yours but you still require to configure your computer to the router for which you will require to go through the manual which came along with the router/modem. If you are a computer savy man you can do it yourself otherwise you will require services of technical person.

My dell latitude d600 is not recognizing any wireless connections. I believe the switch is at top of the keyboard and it doesn't seem to be working. Any advice

if it is not seeing any wireless networks, the wireless card may be defective, try having it tested, or check the device manager to make sure the drivers are installed correctly for the wireless network adapter

Try to boot from the Safe mode with networking. Restart system and keep taping F8 until you get the option for the safe mode with networking. If it can browse to the Internet. You have following issues. 1. Your Ant- virus is blocking the signal 2. a program is preventing it. 3. You got a virus

Latitude d600

the excellent connection refers to the wireless signal and not the internet connection, so go to tools on your web browser, internet options, then delete all temp files, history and cookies, close your browser down and open it up again and see if it connects, if not keep clicking refresh.

Try different sites incase there is a fault on the site you are trying to browse.
