It's not likely to be battery, but fracture in ribbon cable to top screen causing this. Both screens must be connected or you get the symptom you've explained.

My ds lite just switched off and it was charged

Hi, so if you try switching on the ds lite, nothing at all happens ??
Does the green light flash even if it is for like a split second. If it does then it is more likely top be a blown fuse. If 1 of your screens flicker also, this could be your problem as the ds will not start up with a broken screen. Please advise

Nintendo DS will NOT charge

My guess is that the problem resides in the charger. You can buy a dual use charger for the DS and DS Lite at GameStop for relatively cheap.

DS lite, power is on but nothing happens

Ditto... except my daughter is 10. Both screens remain black, are fully charged and green light stays on for more than 4 minutes.

DS Lite Completely crashed

Some R4 cards were known to "brick" DS's. Not sure if they were defective or made that way. So it looks like your DS is dead. Unfortunately, this is the risk you take when you use 3rd party hardware.
