Problem with Onkyo HT-SR700

OK. The coax on the back of the reciever is not for video, it is to plug in an FM antenna if needed. If it were me (and this is how my home theater system is set up)I would not use the reciever for any video at all. My opinion is that it adds too many links in the chain. I would use it for audio only. Really the only reason it would be needed is if you had multiple sources of video and not enough inputs on you TV.
-On the back of the reciever on the left, you should see an RCA style input marked Coaxial, in the Digil In box. That is to be plugged into the DVD player audio labled with a similar label. The reason for connecting it this way is because it is a data connection, which means they actually communicate with each other. A DVD is encoded with information and the DVD player will give that information to the reciever which tells if how it should set itself up for perfect playback. In other words, it's totally automatic, and it's the best possible sound! Super easy.
-For the video, it totally depends what kind of TV you have as there are many ways to configure the video. If you are using a tube TV, you will probably want to use a coax between the two. If you have a high definition tv or some projection sceen, you will likeky have a component video input. That is the best to use if it is available because that is the one that sends true high definition video.
To play a DVD, you will have to use the reciever for audio and set your TV to whater input you decide to use.
