KMX50 would start and accelerate to high speed, then slow down some with fairly erratic speed. I tried changing the triac on the main speed control board, then also the whole board (£45). It made no difference.

The only other component I realised it might be was the speed control board which is on the rear end of the motor under the main cover (I found this component on a site selling Kenwood parts, and was where I got the main board from, which is how I know it's speed control). When I inspected it I found two of the terminals broken. You had to look very closely to see they were broken. It's a poor design as the three legs of the terminals are quite long, and very thin, so on high speed when kneading there is much vibration, which is why I suspect the terminals broke. I cut them back just enough to resolder. The component isn't quite fully inside the sensor wheel on the motor shaft, but it still picks up sufficient signal to control the speed and now works fine. Haven't tried it under load yet, but no reason to think it won't work correctly. So check this before ordering a £45 board!

SOURCE: Blakeslee (Kenwood) A717 mixer speed control

I had the same problem. Had to strip the machine down to get to the motor. On the top is a moving plate with various capacitors etc mounted. On the front side there was a Capacitor (At least I think it was) with the wire broken.
I resoldered it and the machine now works fine.

I hope this helps

Kenwood km020 variable speed on full all the time.

Had the same problem. The module registering the speed setting was broken. Easiest way to fix it is to order part nr KW710359. You can find various shops selling it on google. Bought mine for 35EUR.

Knob for kitchaid stand mixer

I am assuming you mean the little black knob on the speed control has broken off. I will post the solution for that problem.
The speed control lever on KitchenAid mixers has a little black knob on the end (in some cases this may be white or gray). The knob is pressed onto the lever, so if the knob breaks off your only option is to replace the whole lever.
KitchenAid has a kit that will include all you need to replace the speed control lever. It even comes with instructions. Here is a link to the speed control lever kit on our website: http://www.mendingshed.com/kaleverkit.html

The lever kit includes the speed control lever (with knob), speed link, spring, instructions and a gearbox gasket.

The instructions will only walk you through how to hook up the speed control lever, so if you also need a little guidance in taking the mixer apart, and reassembling it please use the KitchenAid service manual. The manual will walk you through all of the repairs you may need on your mixer, including how to take the mixer apart and put it back together. Here is a link to the service manual: http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/mendingshed/kitchenaidservicemanual.pdf

Remember, The Mending Shed is a Authorized KitchenAid service center, we can help you with any repair needs for your KitchenAid appliances, plus all of the parts we carry are genuine KitchenAid brand.

Speed control swich on Kenwood Titanium mixer

The switch on the titanium has a flimsy week point and is always breaking. This is a stupid economy by Kenwood when there is now so much good competition. Mine broke after only 6 months and Kenwood were less than helpful suggesting I took back to where I bought it - 500 miles away!! I wish I had bought a Kitchen Aid

I have a Kenwood Major mixer that gives off smoke an electrical burning smell from the motor when running. Is it worth repairing?

hi its not necessarily the motor but could be some capacitors on the speed control unit ( the control knob is attached to it) spares are reasonable to buy .you can find a dealer from kenwood.co.uk website..

Mixer speed switch is haunted

The likely problem is the Hall Effect sensor located on top of the motor. This sensor is used to determine the speed of the motor. Since it does not sense a speed, the motor revs to top speed and shuts down. You have to shut the switch to Off/Reset to try again. Replace the sensor which costs under $10 before replacing the speed control which costs $50.
