I have a panasonic KX-TG5438 cordless phone. I had a problem with it showing the battery as fully charged and then after talking for only a minute, it would die and indicate that it needed to have the battery recharged. I bought a new battery but this did not help. I sent it in for warranty repair and they sent me a refurbished one of the same model. I have been using that one for about a year and now it is having exactly the same problem. Again, I went out and bought a new battery, but this, as before, did not help. I can place the phone in the charger and after a few hours it shows that it is fully charged, but after a very short time of use, it dies. Any ideas?
A friend that worked for GTE advised me some yrs ago to do this and I have NOT had a problem with another battery since
when you get any new Battery charge it plugged in to the ac AND phone jack for a minimum of 24 hrs without using it.
all batteries have some memory and deminish power over time but if it was NOT fully charged to begin with as a yr goes by so does the battery life. hope this works,

I followed Solution #1 and charged the phone for 24 hours without touching it. This did seem to help. I used the phone for about one week with no problems. Within that week there were a few longer phone calls (about one hour) so I thought the problem was fixed. Then we got an incoming call, my wife picked up the phone from its cradle and it just died. Again the battery indicator showed completely drained and it comes up with the "charge for 6 hrs" message. Before that phone call, the battery indicator showed completely charged. It is almost like there is some circuit within the phone that momentarily shorts the battery. Any ideas?
