I have a cannon henley 10588g cooker, dual fuel, it seems to have a full short some where as when I turn on main oven it blows house trip out, oven element seems ok and measures 28 ohms resistance, when I go across live and neutral input to cooker at back, it measures 56 ohms, there must be a short cct somewhere, but no signs of any burning at back with back off cooker, and now when I turn it on, with oven element disconnected, and main oven knob set to off, the oven fan and light come on as soon as cooker is turned on

Replace the faulty element.
Possibly around £18 for a universal element, plus fitting. Should be no more than £65 with callout from a domestic appliance repair centre.
the fan element would have blown. it is not uncommon for an element to trip an rcd when it blows. you are on the right track, if you replace the element all your problems should go away
