Sounds like hard water. A good rinse product like JetDry should help but a water filter/hard water management system may be in order

Glasses have a white, chalky film around the top of glasses

This due in part with the government mandate to remove phosphates from detergent.
Several things can be done to improve the clean appearance of your dishes.
1. Start a wash cycle with no dishes and no soap. Once the wash cycle has stated and water is circulating, open the door and pour in one quart of white vinegar and resume the wash cycle.
2. Use a detergent named FINISH.
3. Use only the recommended amount of detergent.
4. Periodically use a product named LemiShine.
Taking these steps will improve the quality and appearance of the dishes.
On a final note: too hot water temperature can cause etching in glasses and only a lower water temp will prevent new glasses from etching.

We had an ongoing battle with white film on glasses and dishes, inside...

<p>If your <b>dishwasher does not seem to be cleaning well</b> anymore and you are getting<b> residue and film left on your dishes</b> then you need to read this.<br /> <p><br /> <br /> <p>Since July of 2010 the US Government has mandated that <b>dishwasher detergents</b> contain no more then 0.05% phosphates in them. The Detergents before this had contained up to 8.7% phosphates. The restrictions were for 16 states but many companies then dropped the phosphates from detergents to all states...<br /> <p><br /> <br /> <p>Now if you are having the <b>scum, film, and white residue problems</b> in your <b>dishwasher, </b>there is hope.<br /> <p><span>There is a product that you can buy that will compensate for what the makers of the </span><b>dishwasher detergents</b><span> have left out. This product as commonly know as </span><b>TSP</b><span> or </span>(<b>Trisodium Phosphate</b>).<br /> <p>By adding this to your dishwasher, you can manually add back the phosphates to your dishwasher and enhance the cleaning process.<br /> <p><br /> <br /> <p>Now the nest question...how much TSP do I add to the dishwasher?<br /> <p><br /> <br /> <p>For many dishwashers, waters, and for normal loads you will find that a tablespoon or two is all that you will need. My dishes are coming out with a kind of film on them -- especially the silverware and glasses. Now the plates even look like they have a film on them. The dishes are often still dirty.

Hi
White film deposits are observed if water is hard or when you are using more detergent than needed, try filling detergent cup half way. Try using white vinegar after the wash cycle is complete, run a complete cycle. Also turn down the heat on the hot water fed to the dishwasher. Try using water softener for better results.
You can also add vinegar in the final rinse cycle. Make sure that your soap dispenser drawer is opening and closing fine.
Hope this helps... Please post back if more information is required.

That sounds more like a problem with your soap not disolving completly. Try these few simple things. First, run your hot tap at your sink until it gets hot, then start your dishwasher. What this will do is ensure that your "prewash" is using hot water.

The next thing, is you want to select the "heated wash" or "hi temp wash" option with a "normal wash" cycle. What the heated wash will do is ensure that during the main wash the water gets boosted to 140 degrees wich is the temperature that your soap breaks down at.

White film left on dishes is a classic indication that the soap has not disolved or broken down completly.

Dihes not clean

Run the unit with no soap, after about 5 min. of run time open door and check to see if water is clear or soapy,If soapy then you are having an oversudsng issue. When your washer gets to rinse cycle, your unit (if oversuding),will be rinsing with soapy water and the the drying cycle bakes the soap on dishes. You might be having a white film on your clear glasses.Cut down on soap especially if you have soft water.powder soap is best.Your dishwasher will fill , wash , the drain. Its what you put into it that will cause dishes not become clean.
