Bad logic board on Western Digital Caviar SE16 500 GB SATA Hard drive

My WD 500GB SATA WD5000KS went out on me, stopped spinning. I need the data (no backups) and I don't want to spend 3k-4k for data recovery, if I don't have to. I tried finding an identical replacement drive to attempt a logic board swap, but only found 1 that is close, but not matching the DCM#. Apparently I need a WD5000KS-00MNB0 model with a DCM# close to HBHCAJAAB or the board swap wont work. The 1 I found does enable the drive to spin up, but BIOS now says hard drive error, and I can't access anything on it.(tried software data recovery to no avail) The board I found on eBay has a DCM# of HCHCAJAAB and was same date of manufacture, and not it spins and clicks, whereas before I swapped the logic boards it did not spin at all. If anyone has a suggestion for this problem I would very grateful, Ed Spann

    Hi,
I have seen that you talked in the last year about a WD5000YS with the DCM "HCHCAJAAB".
Does anybody has a glue where to find this HD?
I would need it very urgent and would be glad for any information where I could get such a HD with the exact DCM.
    Thanks
    Please email me.

What jumpers are for slave Western Digital WD Caviar Blue WD3200AAJS - hard drive - 320 GB - SATA-300 SATA

SATA drives don't need jumpers. Just install the drive and the computer will assign a drive letter.

My computer is not recognizing my western digital caviar Se16 500GB

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your "((motherboard to your hard drive))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
hope this helps

My hard disk is western digital 500GB sata blue caviar 16MB 7200RPM .... it stopped working toady with no reason, it was working fine yesterday night, when i wake up today i found its not working any more...

> stopped working toady (froggy? today?)

It "died" -- either the electronic circuit-board "under" the "spinning" part of the disk-drive has short-circuited, or the motor that spins the recording surfaces has quit.

You've tried it on another computer -- so you've done all that you can.

Any 500GB disk-drive is likely to still be under the W.D. warranty.
Open the enclosure, and get the model-number and serial-number from the label on the disk-drive.
Then, access the W.D. web-site, and click "check warranty status", and enter that information.
If the warranty is valid, W.D. will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

If the warranty has expired, W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- purchase a new W.D. device from the W.D. web-site, and you qualify for a good discount on your purchase.

Or, remove the disk-drive from the enclosure, buy a replacement, compatible, disk-drive, and "transplant" it into the enclosure, to create a working external storage device.

WD5000aaks western digital 500GB HDD motor not spining,

Try reseating the power connector for the drive. You can try another unused connector if it will reach. Do the same for the data cable. Reseat both ends of the cable a couple of times to shine up the contacts. If none of this works, then a data recovery service will be needed.
