Not charging Brand new out of the box. Put it on the cradle, keyboard lights up briefly and the battery charging indicator flashes. Seems good BUT ... a few minutes later ... charging indicator is showing steady green (i.e. "charged") but battery is indicating only 1/4 charged. :(

When charged, the green light does not flash. However, since you mentioned that the old battery is also not flashing any light, it could indicate that there might be some issues with the charging base or the keyboard itself. Check the charging contacts make sure it is charging when in the cradle. If problem is remove the battery and let it stand for one minute than re-plug battery in unit place briefly in cradle, until display and or charge indicator lights up . Try making a call . Were you having problems with short battery life before this happened? Most of the time if the battery is not recharging it needs to be replaced. Have never seen the red flashing light before though. It may mean that the battery has shorted out.

make sure that you didn't put the battery in backwards. It can be done and obviously, it won't charge

If it shows it's charging and doesn't actually charge, then the battery is no longer good. It's probably a NiCd battery and they only last a few of years depending on the charge/discharge cycles. Hop down to Wal-Mart for a new battery, or Radio Shack if it's a hard to find one.

you have a bad battery common when the battery sits to long with out being charged they are like 5 bucks on ebay.

If the charging LED doesn't turn to green could mean a signal that the battery is bad or can't charge 100% anymore = too old, needs a new battery. Hope this helps.
