If its truely in sleep mode, and won't come out of sleep mode. Unplug the computer from its power, hold the power button down for 5-15 sec, then wait 2-5 full minutes. Then plug it back in, and turn it on.
If that doesn't work it is NOT stuck in sleep mode. Most dell computers I've worked with the caps go out in the power supply and/or the motherboard. I would next clean out the computer with canned air, check the caps on the motherboard, and in the power supply. If there are any bad caps, replace them, and it should fix it. Hopefully though the above paragraph fixes your problem.

Sounds like you may have a bad memory module. If you have more then 1 memory module installed in the computer try removing one at a time to see if one is shorting your computer. Make sure the power is OFF when removing memory.

How do I configure F key for sleep mode?

To configure the F key on your keyboard to put your computer into sleep mode, you will need to access the BIOS settings on your computer. Here's how to do it:
  1. Restart your computer and as it starts up, press the key that opens the BIOS settings (usually the "Delete" key, the "F2" key, or the "F10" key).
  2. Once in the BIOS settings, navigate to the "Power Management" or "Power" section.
  3. In the Power Management or Power section, look for an option that allows you to configure the function keys. This option may be called "Function Key Behavior" or something similar.
  4. Set the option for the F key you want to use for sleep mode to "Sleep" or "Suspend" (the exact wording may vary depending on your BIOS).
  5. Save your changes and exit the BIOS settings.
Now, when you press the F key that you configured for sleep mode, your computer should go into sleep mode. Keep in mind that the exact steps to configure the function keys in the BIOS may vary depending on your computer's make and model.

My Computer boots and montitor says Going to sleep and flashes VGA : NO signal and goes off

Check under "Power Options" of the control panel of Windows that "Turn off Monitor" is set to "Never" Also check under the advanced tab of "Power options" that "When I press the sleep button on my computer" its set to "Do Nothing"

This will most likely solve your problem. the sleep button may be stuck on the keyboard causing the pc to quickly go into sleep mode

What is 1/4 moon symbol on top left of my compaq keyboard ? when i press it seems to put my computer into sleep mode . how do I get my computer started again ?

You are correct. The moon is sleep mode. Closing and opening the lid will often take it out of sleep mode. You might have to "unlock" the keyboard as well by entering a password (just hit return if you haven't entered a password.)

Under power options, you can select what the computer does in sleep mode.

Keyboard does not work

need to what? I'm not sure what the rest of the question is but it sounds like you need to keep your computer from going to sleep mode. You can do this by clicking on your start menu then going to control panel then inside power options you can turn sleep mode off. There really is no real reason for a home pc to go into sleep mode.

When you press your power button your system goes to sleep mode as per your system settings. To awake your system just press any key or 'Awake Key' (if its present on your keyboard), then your system will be back. No need to wait.

Sleep mode

usually, to get a PC out of sleep mode, you either press the ESC key, press the power button a bit quickly, or press the sleep key agian. It really depends on the system. Try any of those to see if it helps.
