SOURCE: I have power to the dryer, drum not spinning?

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Sounds like your problem may be a belt may have slipped off of the motor pulley, or idler arm pulley.
If you have to replace or check the drum belt and if you have a front loading machine.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket with pulley, and motor with pulley. Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt and drum.
Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum not to turn.
While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil. This will save you a problem later with the rollers getting noisy, also check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them this will cause a noise like a thumping type noise. You will need to replace the drum rollers if they have flat spots on them.
I will include these two websites for parts and further help:
http://www.partselect.com/
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/index.aspx
Both also have chat assistance 24/7.
Good luck,
I hope this helps

SOURCE: Replacing the belt on a Hotpoint VDT20P

There is a tool avaiable, but it is about £30.00.
The belt is meant to be tight, as it is a stretch belt.
You really have to pull down hard on the belt to get it round the motor pulley.
It is better if you can get someone to help you, as this gives you more pulling power, but WATCH YOUR FINGERS.
Please rate my solution.
Thankyou.

Testimonial: "Thanks for your advice, in the end it was a mixture of strength and using a screwdriver to stretch it onto the drive shaft. Its harder than it looks. "

Drum does not spin. Belt appears to be ok

You have a bad tensioner or a bad motor. The tensioner for the belt can drag the motor. However, what you are describing sounds like the motor is shot. But make sure you are getting correct voltage to dryer and nothing is binding the motor.

Kenmore Heavy Duty Plus Dryer 86273100 drum won't spin

How could the belt be in working order if the drum doesn't spin? Check to see if the belt has come off the motor. If the motor runs but your dryer doesn't spin, the belt is off. If the motor runs with the belt on but it still won't spin then you'll have a lot of black smoke because your drum is jammed. In other words, there are a number of things that could be wrong, but not very many.

We have a MMDE9206AYM model dryer that makes a low humming sound but will not start. Last night it also produced a burning smell. I assume either the belt is gone or the motor is overheating although it...

Sounds like drum is locked and motor is running and burned the belt. Try to spin drum by hand, Might check drum ends felt seals, Teflon bearing strips located on the bottom lip of front drum end for wear causing drag. Also check 2 drum support wheels to see if they spin freely, take the belt off motor pulley and spin drum by hand, if easier & motor runs drum is dragging. How is the spring on tensioner, does tensioner pulley spin free? Hope this helps locate the problem.

The drum does not spin, the blower works, the gas will fire up, belts look to be in tact but may be loose?

Most gas dryers have a tensioner on the drive belt under the drum a metal bar with a teflon pully that is spring loaded to tension the belt. Try spining the drum by hand if it spins freely the belt may have come off the tensioner or it may be streched. If it doesn't turn the drum rollers or bushing may be bad. Without a make and moddel # it's hard to say
Hope this helps

Drum not turning

If you are certain that the motor was turning, then the only things that come to mind are that:
  1. The belt is stretched or worn-Replace as there is no adjustment.
  2. The drum is stalled, either because it has seized, or there is something stuck in the drum.
  3. The motor brushes are worn, and will not cope with load of drum, check brushes.
Try running it on fast spin without the belt on , if it spins o/k, then that would indicate the motor is o/k.
Please leave a fixya rating for my solution.
Thanks.

WMA54 Hotpoint Aquarius drum does not turn during wash or spin

If the machine pumps water inside but does not start :

Start checking the lid switch, if this is stuck the machine wont start.

If the drum does not move at all, the motor, the motor control unit, the motor coupler, the control board may be faulty.

For more details , see: It doesn't spin

The drum is not spinning on a miele dryer, model T5206, the appliance is generating heat, the brushes are intact and also the belt on the centre of the drum is intact.

the tensioning device [ spring] is weak or the belt is stretched beyond its usable length. if a new belt has been installed, the tech didn't put the belt on the correct side of the tensioning device. it is possible to install it wrong.
