My Toshiba Satellite A205 will not always shut down or restart properly. Sometimes when I shut down my laptop, it will look like it's shutting down normally, but then the screen will just go black. However, the actual computer will still be on and I am unable to restart it or get it to do anything until I remove the battery. After I remove the battery, it will start normally. Though I know removing the battery while it is still running is bad for the machine.
Anyone else have this problem and knows what to do?
I use Windows Vista.
Hi,
possible setting issue.
If you Go to,
start, control panel, power options, (classic view)
have a look in the power options there, set as needed. there is a few, check them all out.
use disc cleanup, defragmenter, delete temp internet files, in tools on menu bar , delete history,
update the Operating system at Microsoft.
update virus protection and run a full scan.
you should be good if no hardware problems.
Regards.
Hi, good.
defrag twice on the trott, weekly
Disc cleanup weekly
click tools in a web browser, go to delete browsing history,
delete temps, history and form data, regularly. every other day.
leave the cookies, and passwords, otherwise you will have to
fill all this lot in again.
Glad it's better for you,
Cleaning house it's called, it has got to be done.
keeps it running smooth for you

I decided to use a shop vac to suck the dust out and it worked. I tested it by letting the machine run all night and it worked. It's been a couple of weeks now and I'm glad I did it. I was ready to take the machine apart, now I'm glad I didn't. I'd suggest you use a heavy duty shop vac to clean out the fan and heat sinks first.I agree. Try to fix the problem without taking the laptop apart first but I would recommend using a powerful air compressor instead of a vacuum cleaner.
If your laptop is still under warranty, you can take it to any Toshiba Authorize Service Provider and fix the problem at no charge to you.

The defragmenter seemed to do the trick. I did a virus scan and nothing showed up, I uninstalled some extraneous programs, and I changed the power options so I could force it to shut down. However, I still had problems until I ran the disc defragmenter. I haven't had the problem since then.
i think u have some program in vista which is not letting it to close properly please try the OS backup disk on startup and try to repair windows see if it finds any problems otherwise install some un known program and also try to scan ur system with antivirus
for forced shut off u dont need to take out the battery u can press Power button for long like 5 sec or more it will shut off forcibly
but do repair it or get back to me
