Make sure you have used the proper Fan connection on the motherboard and that you used all the pins in it. Usually it consists of 3 to 4 pins for CPU fans. Does your Fan have 3 pins? If not then it is not compatible for Fan Speeds. Also check your BIOS for Fan adjustments. Hope this helps.

Check your motherboard for swollen capacitors. The HP small form factor computers are notorious for blown capacitors on the motherboard. I had a model DC5100 where the fan ran at top speed all the time. There was a swollen capacitor located at the end of PCI slot 1. I believe it is C469. It is a 1000uF 6.3volt cap. I replaced the capacitor and that fixed the problem. Keeping the computer cool will lengthen the life of the capacitors. It is wise to periodically remove the dust so cooling air will flow. Especially in small form factor models. How ever, once a capacitor goes bad, the only fix is to replace it. A blown capacitor will be swollen. The normally flat top will be curved upward and possibly leaking a brown crusty material.

Cpu fan runs at high speed all the time

the problem is that the mother board you are now using has a 4th wire that sences cpu temp this allow the heat sink fan to change speed to get this to work correctly you will need to replace the fan with a 4 wire style. what is happening is your not getting a temp siginal back to motherboard so the fan controller think it hot and send full power to fan alll the time the stock fan in hp systems is not very good any way .Get a good heat sink and fan to fit your new board ebay has them very cheap 5.00 to 20.00 this will all so increase you system temp and all get the proper cooling when you really need it.

Beep problem

Hello niceguy_jes2,
click on this link for the ambulance like sound beep description:
http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/awardbeep.htm

"High frequency beeps while running". "Check the CPU fan for proper operation. Check the case for proper air flow".

First item to check would be CPU's fan speed. To do this, enter your bios menu. Listed there is "H/W Monitor". Open it. Check the fan speed, CPU temperature & mother board temp. Chances are the CPU fan is turning too slow & it may need to be replaced. (No less than 2300RPM's). Average CPU fan's spin at 3000 plus).
Next item if CPU fan is ok. The thermal grease between the heat-sink & CPU may have dried up over time & cause the CPU to get too hot. You may need to remove the CPU & heat-sink assembly. Clean off all old thermal grease from the bottom of the heat-sink & from the CPU. If you do this, do not scratch either surface. Use house hold alcohol on a clean rag & wipe away all old thermal grease. Apply a tiny amount of new thermal grease. Re-assemble & check through bios H/W monitor, CPU temp. One or the other will stop the system beeps.

Cpu fan noisy/chip fan fail error messages

pils,

Yes. This sounds like a fan issue. The noise often comes from bearings failing within the fan. Also, a failing bearing can make things harder on the motor as it brings the fan up to speed. This is likely the reason that you see increased warnings during the fan speed check while booting because it comes to speed more slowly as bearing wear increases.

I give this a 90% chance that your CPU fan is causing the issue. Since a decent CPU fan will cost you ~$20 online, it's not much out of your pocket if you happen to uncover another culprit.

I'll keep an eye on this post. Let me know how things go.

Uncontrolled CPU Cooling Fan Speed

Here is the link for all the various support manuals, software and instructions for your PC if you need them; http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?contentType=SupportManual&lang=en&cc=us&docIndexId=179911&taskId=101&prodTypeId=12454&prodSeriesId=316713 CPU fans should be plugged into the CPU fan power socket on the motherboard, in order to receive variable speed control instructions. If the fan has been incorrectly connected to a different motherboard fan socket, or directly to the power supply then it will run at a constant speed. If it is correctly plugged in to the correct socket, then the hardware management software (there are many possible options here - please post back with which management software you are using and I can give more specific instructions) that comes with the PC should allow you to change the settings - you can change the temperature range at which the cpu fan will go into higher speed mode - it sounds like you may have this set too high You should also be able to control the fans from the BIOS set-up menu - this should be accessible when you boot up. usually it will be by pressing F8, but all systems are set up slightly differently. watch the screen as you boot up and it should give instructions for this. Hope this helps, please give more details of how your machine is set up if you need more specific help :)

CPU fan fail or speed too low

Hi,

I bought the same motherboard this past year (used) and installed it with AMD Athlon 64 fx-57, Antec P180 case, 550 w power supply. I had the case cover off to check the fans when I first fired it up. The AMD oem cpu fan hesitated at power on for a few seconds, which worried me. It started spinning normally and I then shut the system down and waited a few minutes before restarting it. It spinned up fine so I put the cover back on. I started getting the same error you mentioned, so I updated the BIOS to 1013 version. That didn't solve the problem. I ended up disabling the warning in the BIOS as I got tired of seeing it, as I could see the fans were all spinning and the CPU temperature was at about 26 to 34 on cold boot.

I recently checked on this problem and seems many others with this board have this problem. One fellow said he mailed off a question the the problem to ASUStek and they replied that it is just a glitch, that the fan is "smarter" than the BIOS, as it will hesitate to spin fully at start up if the CPU is cool. The suggestion was to disable "Q Fan Controller" in BIOS. I did and don't get that warning.

As for the yellow question marks under manage in Windows, you need to install the drivers for all of those devices, and they will be on the disk that came with the motherboard. I use the latest drivers from the ASUS site, but the only one I couldn't install was the ACPI ATK 0110 Virtual Device that came out in 2007. When I try to unpack the .rar file it says Corrupt Headers and refuses to use the driver from that file. So, I use the driver from the disk.
