I am able to play CDs or listen to wave files with no problem, but when i use Sound Recorder to record myself, it sounds like a chipmunk. Likewise, when i use skype to make calls to family, they report that i sound like this chipmunk. I have made no changes to the computer and its a brand new computer- only 6 months old- Dell Inspiron running Windows Vista SP1 native install, it was working for a couple months and then now it does not. I have never messed with the sound settings at all so no idea what happened. Any advice?
The same thing happened with me.
you need to go to Dell webcam manager, and click Webcam console.
you need to go to the 'effects' tab, and uncheck 'enable Audio Effects'
Even though you say you did not mess with the settings, I'd suggest you check the audio recoding settings in Vista anyway. Better make sure all those are correct.
If you are using an internal microphone, I'd suggest trying an external one (if you already have that, try a different one). Even a webcam with built in mic will do. That way you can isolate the cause.
Based on my experience I'd say that chances are bugger that it is a loose contact, so make sure to check your plug if it's an external mic.
