Sorry, you can't. The TI-84 has a limited ability to work with fractions but it won't work with irrational numbers.

With the decimal value on the screen, press 2nd F<>D.

SOURCE: My TI 84 won't convert

The TI-84 works with real fractions. It will not convert complex numbers to fractions.

You can convert the real and imaginary components to fractions separately. For your example, 1/(1+i) is .5-.5i. Converting .5 and -.5 to fractions, you get 1/2 + (1/2)i.

Improper fraction to mixed number

You do the operation to get a decimal number.
Isolate the integer part (to the left of the decimal point)
Convert the non integer part (decimal part) into a fraction.
Write the result as (integer part) (fraction part)
3/2=1.5
Integer part is 1, decimal part is 0.5
0.5 as a fraction is 1/2
3/2= 1 1/2

Convert decimals fractions standard form

If you are concerned about fraction handling and conversion to decimal representation, upgrade the OS of your calculator to 2.5x MP. As to handling of irrational numbers (such as square roots) you should visit the TIcalc.org website to look for any 3rd-party program that can do that.

How do you convert decimal complex numbers in TI-84 (OS 2.53) to fractions?

I answered a similar question not long ago and here is what I wrote:

Not quite true for OS 2.56 MP for the TINspire with Ti84 keyboard. To convert a complex decimal value, that you just calculated, into a fraction use the command Math [1:>Frac] and it will convert the value to complex fractions
See below.

I suggest you upgrade the OS to version 2.55 MP.

On other models of texas instrument calculators they have a button to do a fraction does the ti-84 plus have that?

Hello,
Yes it can do fractions although it does not have a specific key.
If you want to enter a fraction and keep it in fraction form, though reduced to its simplest expression use [MATH][1:->Frac] [ENTER]
Exemple:
27/48 [MATH][1:->Frac][ENTER] displays the reduced form 9/16.
To convert a decimal number into a fraction (with the inherent loss of precision) press [MAT][1:->Frac][ENTER]
Use [MAT][2:->Dec] to convert to decimal, but this is done by default.
Hope it helps.

How do I on a TI-84 Plus Simplify Fractions

Enter the fraction for example: enter 8/12.
The answer will be .666666
Then click Math (which is located under the Alpha button).
Click the ->Frac button (the first one).
It should come up as Ans->Frac.
Click Enter.
It should now read 2/3 which is 8/12 reduced.
Note: I have a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition, and the TI-84 Plus might not have this function, but that is how I do it on my TI-84 Plus Silver Edition
